I've read of this happening before. The extreme environmentalists are notorious for making up such stories for the press to try and win people over to their side.

Ignorance abounds. There were plenty of red flags in the story. "Most of the seals were were less than six weeks old" should have raised doubts as these animals don't have litters. And, assuming they are killed for their pelts, wouldn't it be less profitable to fill them full of holes?
Why do they have to exaggerate? The truth is not bad enough?
