gas would be at $3.00 by next summer
I heard T. Boone Pickens on CNBC today. He said gas would be at $3.00 by next summer and oil would be at $50. He said it was 50 / 50 that we would ever see oil at $45 a barrel. This is because of declining production.

Yep. Kinda makes one wonder why the Dem leadership is so stubborn about more drilling in our own country. Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Unless we find massive reserves, which currently are not known to exist, oil will simply keep going up. The problem is that the world is quickly becoming modernized. China and India are HUGE countries with an increasing thirst for oil. China's economy is growing by double digits a year and India is not far behind. As they begin to use more and more oil and our own demand stays high, prices have to go up. Sure, drilling here might cause a very small downward tick in prices, but it won't be very much. And it would only be short term anyway. The bottom line is that in the long term we simply need more sources of energy. So drill here or not, it truly does not matter. And I don't care either way.

Yup.
If we don't build more refineries in the US then getting more oil production on line won't do much for the price of gas in the US. We need to move on to other sources of energy. If we can't or won't do alternative energy and nuclear then that leaves us with coal. Without the modern and expensive scrubber technology coal burns even dirtier than oil. Derivatives of coal can also be used to power automobiles. The conservative Republican line is that we can't survive without cheep oil. Lets just drill more holes and force countries to sell it to us Cheep. The conservative need to get over it. The party is ending. From what I have herd, from the moment they start drilling in the gulf of Mexico for example, it will take 7 years before we see one drop of oil.

Here in Virgina, gas is supposed to be up to 2.50 by late this summer, which for here, is very expensive. I remember 2 years ago, gas was .88 a gallon at Wawa. Now its around 2.09. Quite a change!! The thing people seem to forget is that drilling in Alaska will not give us much oil at all. With our rising demand for oil, it wont do us much good. But until we switch to alternative sources of energy, there are also other promising places for oil. Special satellites the US government owns have been circling the country looking for underground oil sources and have been finding substantial sources in the strangest places. Under suburban neighborhoods in Houston, under shopping malls in California. We are finding oil within our OWN country that we never knew existed. I feel confident that we will be able to survive until we form alternative energy, at least to a certain point. Hopefully the government can get the hydrogen cars up and running sooner than 20 years. Id be down for increased taxes to fund the program if the government used the money wisely, and could mass produce these things in a shorter time frame. In the long run, it would save us lots and lots of money, and the environmentalists could shut up for once. They wouldnt even have to raise taxes that much anyways. Plus, do you realize how many government programs there are that do absolutely nothing, and absorb a large amount of taxpayer dollars? Alot. Hopefully the congressional committees working on that problem can cut this crap out to fund more important problems. |
