Default Illegal alien? Wanna drive? No license? Got caught?

Under current law, for 30 days police can impound the vehicle of a motorist caught driving without a valid license. Cedillo's bill would exempt those who don't have a license simply because they are not legal U.S. residents.

Wonder how long it's going to be before Californians start renouncing their American citizenship? I mean, could you go to TJ, renounce your citizenship, walk back across the border (or catch a ride) and then pick up some of these sweet perks?

OK.... well.... hmmm.... So not only does the US allow for free emergency health care (and regular health care) for illegal immigrants, now you don't have to even respect the traffic laws knowing they can't be touched either.... Interesting. This Gentleman must have a large Hispanic constituency in his district or is plain nuts.

I have gone through the INS grind and can claim i have legally obtained my residency. This said, I despise every single one of the illegals and the perks they get. I despise the 3 amnesties they had while I waited and paid (stupid me followed the rules).

Here is a novel idea.... if you are illegal and get caught, the next jet to Mexico or wherever out of LAX is leaving with you.... May sound radical but at least it would be an approach to treating "everyone equal" (Bovine defecation).

thought that was a fact not just your opinion...

Anyhow... today's newspaper clipping:

Judge rejects revoking illegal immigrants' licenses
Associated Press

ALBANY, N.Y. — The state Department of Motor Vehicles may not deny driver's licenses to immigrants who cannot prove they are in the United State legally, a judge has ruled.

The DMV has mailed letters to about 600,000 people statewide whose Social Security numbers could not be verified. About 252,000 haven't responded and would have been subject to license revocation. The state has 11.5 million licensed drivers.

Tuesday's ruling came in a lawsuit filed on behalf of five immigrants by the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund.

"Plaintiffs have faced and will continue to face serious injuries if these practices continue," state Supreme Court Justice Karen Smith wrote.

DMV Commissioner Raymond Martinez said the state will appeal. He said the agency imposed the restriction in 2002 to make sure drivers "are who they say they are." About 7,000 licenses were seized in the first months after the measure was put in place.

"New York state is fighting fraud and protecting New Yorkers from terrorism and other criminal acts," Martinez said. "Verifying a person's Social Security number is a common-sense and proven way to fulfill that important responsibility."

from Houston Chronicle. http://www.chron.com/content/chronic...tan/index.html

I guess the question now is, why do they issue them in the first place. Technology is available to check prior to the creation and if the SSN can't be verified, the individual ought never receive it in the first place.

Further more, why should an illegal have ANY rights in this country other than those granted to tourists?
Break the law and get rewarded for it.... it is absurd!

It is absurd! This country is in desperate need of an immigration overhaul. An illegal alien should not have the ability to have state ID's in any shape or form (since they can be used to e.g. get on planes).

Default That ruling will soon be overturned

once Bush signs the bill regarding driver's license standards. One activist judge down.

California, from the state that brought you discounted tuition for illegal aliens comes a new law that is only enforced if you are American.

By the mid-19th century unique had developed a wider meaning, “not typical, unusual,” and it is in this wider sense that it is compared. The comparison of so-called absolutes in senses that are not absolute is standard in all varieties of speech and writing.
