I have a friend who works in security all around the world. He is in Afghanistan now. Through him I hear from and of people who are in the middle of things.
How about the rebuilt water treatment plant in South Iraq? The soldiers stationed there worked for months to rebuild it---not because it was damaged in the war, but because it was crap from the beginning. When they had the ribbon-cutting, they had officials from all the neighboring towns and villages, and they had extensive press coverage---from every country but the U.S. Why is it so hard to believe that there are statistics on things like this? Why is it so hard to believe that the commanding officers don't keep track of what is going on? The only reason to be unable to believe that is because such a belief would be contrary to what some WANT to believe, which is that this whole effort is corrupt, the people behind it are corrupt, and no good thing has come from it or can come from it. How terribly terribly clever and superior of you to "see through" all of this. The power of the internet is such that a letter like the one my friend sent me can be recieved by hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people, within days. This can be a good thing, or a bad thing, depending on what is being sent. But the letter I got was accompanied by a name, and a unit. I will see if I can verify this. As my source is very reliable, and not prone to gullibility, I felt pretty sure about sending it on. On the other hand, I'll bet you weren't too picky about passing on anything negative you received about the Bush administration, were you? Nothing like that lib inconsistency to brighten up a day. |

It is indeed an email. It is indeed making the rounds. That doesn't make it invalid. By the way, I never claimed to know the person who wrote it. You guys keep saying that. I only claim to know the person who forwarded the letter to me. Why is this such a hard thing to understand? Or, maybe it's that liberal bias should be accepted at face value, while the rest of the world (read neocons) have to prove it on every turn.
