Isn't Pakistan a nice ally!
Appeal in 'honour' gang rape that shocked world, AP, 28 May 05 "ISLAMABAD: An appeal against the acquittals of five men alleged to have gang-raped a Pakistani woman on the orders of a village council has begun in the nation's Supreme Court. Mukhtaran Mai, 33, was raped in June 2002 on the orders of a tribal council in Meerwala, central Punjab province, as punishment for her brother's alleged affair with a woman from a powerful rival clan. Six men were sentenced to death in August 2002 for the assault, but a Lahore High Court cleared five of them on appeal in March this year and commuted the sentence of the sixth to life imprisonment. The decision shocked the country and was condemned around the world. International outrage was compounded when Islamabad barred Ms Mai this month from travelling to the US to meet congressional leaders to discuss abuses against women in South Asia. Women in Pakistan and other parts of South Asia are often subject to brutal "honour punishments" -- from acid-burning to rape and murder -- to pay for the alleged crimes of relatives. Ms Mai has urged President Pervez Musharraf to intervene in the case, saying her life is in danger if the accused are allowed to move freely." http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au...5E2703,00.html

Mussaraff is a friend of ours in this war on terror. Nobody claims that ALL of Pakistan is. In fact, he's like one man against most in his own country. But thank God he's there. I don't undertand why you guys want to trivilize what he does. He's risked his life to help us in this war on terrorism. So, it's clear we should...and do.....take what we can get.

Let's look at a few facts. Prior to Pakistan being an "ally" it was a Muslim fundamentalist government with WMD's and more terror trainers and training grounds than anywhere else (aside from Afghanistan). Now they are an ally and NOTHING HAS CHANGED! Except one thing: Now we give them cash. So let me ask again: Who's helping whom JP5? My solution? Don't give countries with terror training grounds aid. Second, try worrying about fighting terror at home. As I've said a million times, a terrorist in Arabland is a non issue. Like a killer in jail. If he can't get here, what's the problem? Who cares? According to military experts, getting weapons that can reach our shores is very hard for actual governments, which makes it nearly impossible for terrorists. So, instead of sending money to Pakistan keep it here. Giving money to Pakistan is like an investment that pays nothing. Another interesting point: All the things W said about Iraq is actually true of Pakistan. And we send them money! And you wonder why people call him stupid. I know they were supposed to help catch OBL, but you see where that has gotten? If they are helping, maybe they should stop.
