In 2007 China exported $1.2 trillion worth of stuff. $233 billion of that, or 19%, went to the U.S. That is a pretty big chunk. Only the EU imported more from them. China really does not want to lose 19% of its trade. We would be materially affected by inflation, rising interest rates and a steep decline in the dollar should we stop dealing with China. If people are whining now, trust me, they would REALLY be in dire straights should that happen. Which is why it won't! Econ to the rescue.

China did not suffer from the credit crunch because the Chinese banking system is still not first world. They weren't invested in crappy U.S. mortgages.

Why do I think that the Chinese will surpass us? Well let's look at history shall we?

Britain, Rome alll of these countries when they were hegemon had a similar military to us (in terms of advancement when compared to competitors) and the 'Hawks' banged on about how powerful and technologically advanced their military was compared to rivals. Then however, other power with more money surpassed them.... See where I'm going here?

China will eventually overtake us and have bigger and better weapons as a result. Our weapons didn't come about because we're American, they came about because we are the richest country on earth. This equation is applicable to any country that is the richest on the planet.

Your data has proven that the EU trade more with the Chinese than us! This shows how they are diversifying.

But please tell me, how do you think America will maintain it's advantage once China is the richest country on the planet? Just like the Italians weapons now, first rate

China has a higher GDP than Britain or France. Explain why they do not have better weapons than Britain or France.

For years, Taiwan government followed the rule from the US and had been trying Arm Race with China. Taiwan government has spent billions of dollars purchasing arms from the U.S. Now Taiwan government realize that they had spent too much money in the arm race with China and the arms they purchased from the U.S. were mostly out-dated so Taiwan government in the past five years has been very reluctantly to purchase any arms from the U.S. China and Taiwan's relationship is strictly internal affair not an international event, no country should get involved. Period. The New China will not use force against her own fresh blood Taiwanese unless the outsides trying to provoke for Taiwan Independence. In other word, please mind our Own business.

America will stand fast for any actions political or military of the Chinese government in regards to Taiwan. Hell we are letting them render people in our secret prisons. We're like brothers now ....accept different!
