[quote=Sadistic-Savior;532048]The New China has no choice. We will not permit them to invade Taiwan. Their military is too weak to defeat us if we decide to defend Taiwan. And they will not go nuclear for obvious reasons. [quote]
SoS, You really need to spend some more time googling on Chinese military power. Your impression in regards to Chinese military force is out-dated. |

GOOGLE: China's military power GOOGLE: China's naval force Then use the POPULATION of China to calculate the numbers of soldiers in army, naval and air force. |

Population alone has nothing to do with their military capabilities.
It does give them a manpower pool to absorb high losses. Oh and it is now the Official and Open policy of the United States that any attack on Taiwan by China will result in the USA coming to the defense of Taiwan. Last edited by DuH2; 05-23-2008 at 03:39 PM. |

Explain how their population is relevant to an air or naval war. Population means nothing if they are stuck on the ground. How exactly is China going to use them against us? Are they all going to throw rocks or something? |

1.3 billion of people vs. 300 millions of people In regards to weapons, just what we have that they don't have? who will win eventually. Just in case, giving ten years of war time for this fictional war. |

Mind-boggling numbers are both China's strength and weakness.
If China manages to keep growing its economy and raising standards of living, it's reasonable to think that they'll one day surpass us technologically. With 1.2 billion people, they could (with a touch of hyperbole) produce a number of engineers and scientists that almost equals our entire population. With an R&D base that large, and an economy big enough and wealthy enough (per capita) to fund it, they could simply swamp us. But as SS points out, raising standards of living for that many people is very, very difficult. Which is China's Achille's heel. The more you raise standards of living, the more resources have to be devoted merely to satisfying consumer demand. And China also has to be very careful to manage expectations, lest growth not keep pace with desires and prompt a backlash -- worst case, revolution. It'll be interesting to see which trend wins out.
