So.....IF the 'Times-Picayune' thinks their city was not impossible to get to just after this hurricane....then why didn't the city and state officials get in there? It sounds like the Times-Picayne didn't see any of the tv coverage. Perhaps they were unaware that New Orleans was under water??? That's a really stupid editorial, I must say.

No faith in the leadership. Thats what happens when the actions don't live up to words. "Mission Accomplished" photo op an early sign of this.

Pres.Bush jnr and his adminstration lost their credibility a while back, now it's starting to hit home.

I suggest you watch a little more TV. Massive numbers of people have been moved in the last two days.

Quote:
Despite the city’s multiple points of entry, our nation’s bureaucrats spent days after last week’s hurricane wringing their hands, lamenting the fact that they could neither rescue the city’s stranded victims nor bring them food, water and medical supplies.
I seem to remember watching victims being plucked from the rooftops from the beginning. How long does it take to get that many people one at a time? They want to pretend that nothing was being done for days.

Quote:
Mayor Ray Nagin did the right thing Sunday when he allowed those with no other alternative to seek shelter from the storm inside the Louisiana Superdome. We still don’t know what the death toll is, but one thing is certain: Had the Superdome not been opened, the city’s death toll would have been higher. The toll may even have been exponentially higher.
What did he do Saturday after Bush declared the emergency? Why didn't he bring supplies in then? Anyone who refuses to allow any blame of Nagin is just stupid.

Quote:
State Rep. Karen Carter was right Friday when she said the city didn’t have but two urgent needs: "Buses! And gas!" Every official at the Federal Emergency Management Agency should be fired, Director Michael Brown especially.
I can go along with firing Brown. Though the people of New Orleans need to realize that they were not the only ones in the midst of disaster from Katrina. But, doesn't anyone wonder why the mayor didn't bring the school buses to higher ground or use them to get the people out before the storm?

Quote:
There were thousands of people at the Convention Center because the riverfront is high ground. The fact that so many people had reached there on foot is proof that rescue vehicles could have gotten there, too.
Tell me about the rescue vehicles designed to move large numbers of people and be driven in high water.

Thousands and thousands of people SAVED; one at a time. God, it was amazing to watch!! They said one Coast Guard helicopter alone saved some 500+ people in on day!!!

Were you cheerleaders in high school?

Even Shepard Smith confronted this kind of spin on Hannity and Colmes Friday night. (On your beloved Faux news channel.) Smith was visibly angry that there was a straight line to 235 and the Convention Center was in lockdown with a roadblock to prevent people from walking to water and food--AND NO HELP IN SIGHT FOR 5 DAYS!

There is no excuse for the lies. And there was no excuse for the busses not getting there. AND there is no excuse for our president congratulating Michael Brown. Perhaps both should resign.

This is either government failure or strategic planning--now Americans will all demand marshall law for future disasters. More military spending--more civil rights repealed-- Gee--maybe that is why there was such ineptitude. (Stop me before I start a new conspiracy theory! LOL)

No. Are YOU a "doom and gloom" preacher???? Can you EVER look on the bright side of anything??? Or does your hate for Bush override everything else?

So, in your opinion. everything should go 100% perfectly or else it's all a failure, eh? You don't consider rescuing THOUSANDS of people one by one off rooftops by helicopter a positive occurence?

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think we can really credit the Bush Administration for the helicopter rescues as they were mostly conducted by national guardsmen deployed by states. Is this not right? If so, Bush had nothing to do with that. The fact that no food or supplies reached the survivors for numerous days is very true and quite sad. I honestly think Bush was dragging his feet in the hopes that this would all work itself out without him having to get too involved. Y'know, anything besides oil, Iraq, and terrorism seem to be minor issues to Bushinator. And I agree that the people of New Orleans shouldn't trust his words now. He has lost his credibility after the whole WMD affair. Like my Momma always told me- For every lie I catch you telling me, it takes 10 years of solid honetsy to build back our former trust. Bush has really dropped the ball.
