Default Ted Kennedy on Judge Roberts

KENNEDY NOW (TO JOHN ROBERTS - 2005):
"Judges are appointed by and with the advice and consent of the Senate,
and it is our duty to ask questions on great issues that matter to the
American people and speak for them. Judge Roberts, I hope you will respond fully and candidly to such questions, not just to earn our approval, but to prove to the American people that you have earned the right to a lifetime appointment to the highest court in the land."

KENNEDY THEN (TO THURGOOD MARSHALL - 1967):
"We have to respect that any nominee to the Supreme Court would have to defer any comments on any matters which are either before the court or very likely to appear before the court."

Nice double standard Ted.

As if that weren't bad enough. Yesterday he said that the Katrina disaster reminds us how important the hearings are. What??? A natural disaster reflects on the importance of confirmation hearings? Well apparently his "logic" is that the disparity of rich and poor in New Orleans is a sign that social progress is needed in this country. His statement was that "he wants to ensure that Roberts will not use narrow interpretation of the law to prohibit social progress in this country."

Excuse me? His job is interpretation of the law. It's not his job to add new laws or interpret them in a way that makes it easier to narrow the gap between the rich and the poor. It's scary that this man is a government representative and actually takes an oath about enforcing the constitution, an oath he ignores on an almost daily basis.

(I've never held a real job in my life) Kennedy is full of crap!

And I'm so glad you brought this up. Isn't it amazing how the Dems seek to turn a natural disaster into some kind of statement on the "rich versus the poor?" To Kennedy....it's the rich who are keeping the poor down in the lowlands in a city. To Kennedy....it's the rich who are keeping the poor where they are. To Kennedy.....it's the white folks(everyone but Democrat whites, of course) who are keeping those black folks where they are.

But what you will NOT see Kennedy being open to discussing is the idea of personal responsibilty. Or the conditions that are the root causes for such poverty. Like the fact that 70% of black American children are born out of wedlock. Like the fact that a large percentage of such children are raised in single parent households. Nope. You will NOT find Kennedy addressing these problems.

Default Thurgood Marshall - now that was agod nomination

sort of a "stick it in the face" of conservatives.

"(I've never held a real job in my life) Junior"

interesting how the Republicans on the pannel are advising not to answer questions while the Democrats are advising to answer questions.

this isn't your daddy's Republican party....

Obviously, you don't know that the Democrats.....some of the same ones on this committee....like Sen Biden......advised Ruth Bader Gingsburg to NOT answer certain questions. back in 1993. In fact, they want a totally different standard now than the one they set for Ruth Bader Gingsburg......a very LIBERAL judge.

Hypocrites!

Kennedy is such a puke. He is currently trying to keep Roberts from answering questions. And Spector keeps saying to Kennedy to "Let him answer the question!"

How rude. You can tell that Kennedy doesn't even "listen" to any answers anyway. He's too busy reading his notes to find what hateful thing he'll say next.

Talk about "discriminating against women" Teddy: What about that one you left to drown back in 1968 as you were more concerned about saving your political career???????

How this man continues to get voted in office is beyond me. He MUST be buying his votes. That's the only conclusion I can come to.

Well, please give Teddy that memo. Because he gives these long, speech-type questions and then cuts off Roberts' answers.

But Spector is keeping Teddy under control. Somebody has to.

Default Roberts should answer

every time he gets an ideological question he should say "I prefer to answer in the style of Ruth Bader Ginsburg who refused to answer any questions relating to potential rulings. The same Ginsburg who was passed 98-0, but thanks anyway for the question."

The dems and their double standards, this isn't your Daddy's democrat party.

Default Breyer 1994

precedent is set by the last confirmation hearings - this IS a hearing dealing with law by the way.

Precedent is not set by older actions.

Orrin Hatch was miffed when that was brought up.....
