William Jefferson, D-La, who represents New Orleans and is a senior member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee) used the National Guard troops to check on his OWN property and rescue his OWN personal belongings — even while starving New Orleans residents were trying to get rescued from rooftops, ABC News has learned.



This is EXACTLY why I hate HYPOCRITE DEMOCRATS soooooo much, If a Republican politician had tried anything remotely like this is would be the LEAD STORY on every BUSH HATING network accross the world.

The double standards in media reporting and personal responsibility are now so self evident that ordinary working class folks are starting to finally "get it" !!!

This is unbelievable. It's pretty well-known that New Orleans and the state of Louisiana is run by some pretty corrupt people.

We've got the same kind of problem right here in Dallas. It's run by a bunch of crooks as well. In fact, several of them are under FBI investigation right now.

He wasn't diverting resources being used elsewhere; he was already touring downtown New Orleans with a Guard escort and rather understandably wanted to see his own neighborhood a few miles away. His staff insisted he retain the escort because the area was thought to be dangerous.

After that it devolved into a comedy of errors.

I'm not sure I could have resisted the temptation to visit my destroyed house if I was within a few miles of it, though I probably would have changed my mind if the Guardsmen indicated they had more important things to do.
