Default US Army lies again!

From Sunday's San Jose Mercury News. Which is a Knight Ridder publication so it is probably in many other papers.

"Truth of soldier's death worsens mother's grief"

"For 15 months, Karen Meredith thought she knew the truth about her soldier son: Army 1st Lt. Kenneth Ballard was killed by enemy gunfire during a battle in Iraq.
Over the weekend, the Mountain View mother learned the real truth: Her son died in the accidental discharge of a military tank machine gun. The U.S. Army knew for more than a year she said, but did not tell her until a hand-delivered letter arrived Friday afternoon."

The article goes on to flesh out the details. But you get the point. Very reminiscent of the Pat Tillman (another Bay Area soldier) coverup.

Default Don't know

Mistakes happen. And as you mention, more than once. Now the question is if this is a trend, or, if this was a coverup. But the "unfortunate series of events" are not explained in this article.

Default Apparently someone doesn't know what a lie is

It's when someone says something they know not to be the truth. When calling someone a liar we usualy ask for something we like to call "proof."

By the mid-19th century unique had developed a wider meaning, “not typical, unusual,” and it is in this wider sense that it is compared. The comparison of so-called absolutes in senses that are not absolute is standard in all varieties of speech and writing.

It's just like that famous football player for the Cardinals (Forget his name) who died in Afghanistan. The government said he was killed by enemy fire, and built him up as a hero (He certainly is, but you know what I mean), then sometime in the spring, it was released he was killed by friendly fire. I'm hoping that it was just crossed wires, but I honestly believe that it was plain old lying.

Default ???

I'm pretty sure in my heart that military heads have lied often throughout history. But I have to concede to Rebellion. We don't really know when they're lying and when they're not. Think what you want, but don't expect any action.

The US Army says that 1st Lt. Kenneth Ballard was killed by enemy fire. In fact, he was killed by the accidental discharge of a machine gun from one of his own tanks. That's a lie.
