Default Switzerland backs Iran-IAEA cooperation: Swiss FM

TEHRAN, March. 17 (ISNA)-Swiss foreign minister voiced her country's support of Iran and the IAEA mutual cooperation saying "diplomatic work in Iran's nuclear issue is not lost because we can witness the fruits of diplomacy and nuclear negotiations."

"We have also tried for resolving Iran's nuclear issue with the other side, we have supported and will support multilateral mechanisms for solving the dispute," Micheline Calmy-Rey noted.

She added her country encourages Iran to continue cooperating with the atomic watchdog to assure the world that the nature of its nuclear activates is peaceful.

Calmy-Rey who is in Tehran for a gas deal after 2 hours of negotiation with Iran's foreign minister in a joint press conference hoped Iran and Switzerland gas deal would be a success due to its importance for both countries.

Energy policy is of great importance in international relations and the gas agreement is in accord with international regulations and Security Council's resolutions, she said.

Meanwhile she emphasized on respecting human rights and the political importance of this issue and continued "violating the respect for human dignity causes the lack of stability and peace in the world."

Iran and Switzerland started negotiations on human rights since October 2003 and it is necessary that they continue the negotiations; she asserted "both sides are worried about the violation of human rights and pay attention to the issue clearly and straightly."
