Default australians ground troops leave Iraq

Quote:
SYDNEY, Australia - Australia ended combat operations there Sunday, a Defense Department official said.

The combat troops are expected to return home over the next few weeks. Local media reports said the first of the soldiers had already landed in Australia on Sunday afternoon.
a. How did the Aussies elect such a sissy for PM?
b. Meantime....going virtually unreported: US Casualties in May were the LOWEST of any month since the war began.
c. australia still has thousand of infrastructure civilians in iraq...don't let the media spin the truth...as educated individuals

I understand Australia only had 500 or so troops in Iraq - still, 500 more than their weak-knee NZ neighbours. The ex Prime Minister, John Howard, saw the merit in retaining close ties with the US - Comrade Rudd thinks otherwise and it appears the majority (although by no means all) of Aussies agreed.

a. I guess the Aussies, like lots of other developed countries, want Nanny to baby them from cradle to death. Do not ask me why.

b. The drop in casualties is great news - long may it continue.

c. I hear all the new houses being built in Iraq have double garages - one for the V8 Holden and one for the tinnie - and a barbie in the backyard, too

We didn't elect a 'sissy', we elected someone who recognised what we all had been saying the past four years - we do not need to be in Iraq, and should come home. Rudd has actually listened to us and complied with our wishes.
The majority of Australians do not support the war, Rudd has listened, and withdrawn our troops, and for that, I commend him.

The Australians I spoke to at the beginning of the Iraqi war were PROUD that their country was involved - then the going got tough and the Aussies went soft.

Do not expect the US war machine to bail you out next time there's a war in the Pacific! There's 300 million Muslims on your doorstep - you'd better hope they all don't want to re-locate to the Gold Coast or Noosa.

Soon Brittish tropps will also abandon the Criminal US war mogering administration.

There will be NO coalition of the WILLING - and remember the coalition of the willing had the GIANTS of world power bases such as TONGA and ELSAVADOR who contribute a handful of administration personell so that they dont get blackmailed by US corporations and Washington.

THis war is an insane Republican Party criminal act that was based on lies and greed - FIGHT IT YOURSELVES!

Oh, I almost forgot - Have you found Bin Laden yet?

Polls taken before the invasion of Iraq showed that over 50% of people did not agree with the Iraq invasion. In subsequent polls during the Iraq occupation, the figure rose to around 70% and higher.
I would say that people were proud we were involved because we hadn't yet heard too much from Bush and his 'excuses'. I think we simply got sick of Bush and the reasons he was trying to give for the Iraq invasion, and decided we would be better off if we left.

Good for the Aussies. Now if only the US would do the right thing and withdraw too.

I like to think the US are smart enough to withdrawl. Hopefully they'll be home by the end of the year.

That would be great, but it'll never happen. We'll be mired in this god forsaken war for years to come; no matter who gets elected in November.

Default They are not withdrawing completely

Iraqi security officials said about 400 Australians were headed home while the balance will remain in Iraq where they could be deployed in a security detachment in Baghdad.

When it announced its troop pullout in February, Australia said it would still have about 1,000 military personnel in and around Iraq, including a 110-strong security detachment in Baghdad.

It will also have personnel for Hercules and Orion aircraft based outside Iraq as well as a warship in the Gulf.
