Why are you so intent on fightng human nature. Realise that humans are not meant to be perfect or peaceful. Corruption is envitable only the degree can be controlled. Lets put it this way our goverment today is far less corrupt then in any time in human history, but that doesnt prevent war.



Thats exactly what it is an ideal something which we can strive for but never achieve. You dont have any society to compare with to say yes we are primitive. Our sophistication only led to more effective and effiecent ways to wage war.

War is the health of the state. The more "wars" (i put it in quotations because we haven't fought a real war since WWII) we fight, the more rights we lose and the stronger the government becomes.

On that note. The way things work tactically at the moment is the person that shoots first has a huge advantage in being the one who shoots last.

For example if Iran decided to attack right now there would be massive casualties in a number of bases and we'd probably lose a whole carrier battlegroup in the Persian gulf to a swarm of anti ship missiles.

Whereas if we just them what missiles they do get off will run into planes already in the sky and systems already tracking. The battlegroup will be mostly out of range and ready. The people in the bases will be in shelter or elsewhere. And Iran would take a lot of damage in the first strike. Possibly get their subs caught at the surface to boot.

Now I'm not trying to derail the thread into an Iran discussion. I'm just saying that letting the other person shoot first is a very bad idea.


However I do think we can move past war through democracy. I don't think there's much worry of the US invading canada or the Euro nations going after each other.

However there are likely quite a few conflicts to get through before we get to that point. Taiwan, Chechnya, much of Africa will probably cause conflict for some time into the future. Along with some other rogue states. But I still think things are getting better.

At the least the scale of wars has been dropping.

Cold war era wars would rack up only a few million dead total.
So far I don't think the war on Terror has broken into a single million yet, maybe about half that. And comparatively American losses are tiny.
African bush wars would probably be even fewer.

Of course there is always the chance things will just blow up.

War? Sometimes needed, sometimes not. It's Hell, but it's not supposed to be.
