Default Legalizing Drugs

I personally believe that the illegalization of pot is one of this countries big hypocracies. I mean cigarettes are more addictive and alcohol results in more violence.

But I talked to someone once who went as far as to say we shoul legalize heroin. It had to do with the fact that a person should be able to screw up his life the way he sees fit.

Are there limits we should but on letting people be as individual as they want?

Default This

is a complicated issue, but I agree with you that pot has a less harmful affect on society than alcohol and cigarettes, but legalising heroin, don't think I could agree with that.

Cheers,

Trot

Arresting and prosecuting people for possession and use of pot is a waste of time and resources. I would not be in favor of legalizing any other drug, but pot is not more dangerous than alcohol and cigerettes.

Some opponents consider pot a "gateway" drug, but from what I have read, alcohol is actually more of a gatway drug than pot.

Here Here. I heard that 80% (and please don't take this for blanket fact) of prisoners are ther for drug possession and use. Some with the intent to sell. 80%! If this is true, there are way less murderers in prison than we think.

And many of the murderers go to jail for drug-related murders. Subtracting pot from that arena would clear a lot of jail space. And, just think about the extra tax money for the legal sale of pot. I am sure Busweiser would be all over it. lol

Default One in Eight Men in America behind bars

There are more than enough reasons to put someone behind Bars. Pot is without a doubt the most profitable. Remember, prisons are an industry not a correctional programme, they are in it for the bucks.

Heroin is delt with in methadone programs in Australia, but as an international crop, it feeds a lot of third world families in Afghanistan and The Golden Triangle. These people need the Drug lords arrested and the users need to meet their own needs. Insted of breaking into our houses, they should grow their own.

Most theft is drug related. If the state supplies drugs free to users and addicts it can provide support to them.

Anphetamenes are a problem though, there is no treatment program, we have Ice at the moment, this is expensive and sends users into psychosis very quickly compared to speed. The is not another drug to treat these ones with though, and the users are a lot more violent than dope smokers.

I think users need to be identified and removed from some jobs, heavy earth moving equipment etc and drugs supplied freely under medical supervision. Methadone was a product from the Nazis to keep the solders comming back, some users don't like that, for them there is bubamorphine, I think a regulated supply of heroin is a natural addition to such programs.

Pot, is easy to grow, so users should grow their own, it should still be illegal to sell it, as then children are placed in the same addiction that needs money problems that users all face now.

Age limits on alchole and tobacco demostrate the difficulties we face in the future when such bold health initiatives are trialled. Needle park and Harm Minimisation strategies are the other best options under conservative state regemes. Clean Needles and safe injecting rooms, stop the spred of Hep C and Aids, clean up used picks and again, keep away from occupations where their drug use endangers others.

Drugs are bad K! It is true, prohibition and punishment don't work either.

This is a huge problem and dealing with it will save lives, protect children/addicts and cut crime, not dealing with it is costing lives, police, users small dealers and inocent bystanders.

I agree with most of the things you say there except for the line above. Pot really isn't very addictive naturally. It is addictive if you are a bored or boring person and it provides the only way out. But it doesn't have the natural pull that Heroin does. Children will not be placed in that position if there are age limits like there are for alcohol.

Kids who want pot are going to get pot, just like alcohol.

You know who would be the most bummed if pot was legalized? Jimmy down the street getting $2000 a month selling it to his college buddies. It's always funny seeing this "fictional" Jimmy rallying at pro-pot gatherings, not thinking of this.

NEWSFLASH dear: drug dealers don't attend "Free the Weed" events.
Trust me on this.

Now I'm not a big conspiracy theorist, but let me throw this out to you all for comment: do you think the pharmaceutical companies have a hand in blocking legalisation of the weed because it would take so many people off of so many prescription drugs they wouldn't need anymore?

OR do you think it's still mainly the conservatives who have no knowledge of the real world vis a vis drugs, who are still in the "Reefer Madness" frame of mind?

Default Can't tax it

I believe #1 reason why the government won't legalize pot is because it cannot be taxed or controlled once it legally available. Anyone could grow pot in their backyard.

Without the ability to tax it or control growing it, there is no ability to control intake. This creates numerous societal problems: lung cancer, long term psychological problems (paranoia), addiction, greater societal malaise.

And trust me, pot is addictive. We'll all seen friends/family who passed up potential for drugs.
