The study shows big cities increase human interrelation which leads to all kinds of growth, good and bad.
I guess what they're saying is that it is not simply urban habitat or population size that causes cities to be acesspools of crime, but the specific conditions that some city dwellers live in. Cities and their populations also lead to more innovation of positive kinds.
Personally I'm thinking this all sounds pretty obvious... but I guess that just means I've been right for a while.
Interesting study nonetheless.
