Default Ouch. India won't take dollars.

You know your currency is in the crapper when India won't take it.

http://www.ajc.com/services/content/...xsvc=7&cxcat=6

Quote:
NEW DELHI — No dollars, just rupees please. In a sign of how the once mighty U.S. dollar has fallen, India's tourism minister said Thursday that U.S. dollars will no longer be accepted at the country's heritage tourist sites, like the famed Taj Mahal.

For years the dollar was worth about 50 rupees and tourists visiting most sites in India were charged either $5 or 250 rupees.

But with the dollar at a nine-year low against the rupee — falling 11 percent in 2007 alone and now hovering at around 39 rupees — that deal has become a losing proposition for the tourism industry.
Just thought this was ironic.

The economy is just fine chicken little.

80 bucks to fill your car so you can get to one of your several jobs, a $30,000.00 house goes for around $200,000.00, the stockmarket stronger than ever breaking records, and the average American family working 2-3-or more jobs in many cases, still working for less money annually than their grandparents made, excuse me grandfather made!

Nothing could be finer!

I think I'll be okay. I have an essential skill. I can sing for my supper. People always love a good tune, you know, a little blues or somethin'. I'll get fed - I won't starve.

By the way, our masters just arrived, so please check our web site (in my sig), we'll try to have some stuff up there by tonight or tomorrow morning. Lots of good stuff. A beautiful love song, some deep Pink-Floyd-at-Pompeii-ish stuff about the death of empires, some kickin' southern rock, some nice poppy stuff with catchy hooks - somethin' for everyone!

its probably a pain in the ass to take all your nice dollar bills to be changed into rupees and get less in return each time, haha. inconsistency is only good when you get more money out of it.

India is one of the largest growing industrial and electronic production bases on the planet. If things keep up the way they are, they will outgrow China when it comes to producing stuff you actually want instead of the cheapo toys and nicknacks the Chinese produce.

India is used extensively in service based industries like tech support and they also have one of the fastest growing movie and music industries outside the US.

Oh...and they have nuclear weapons, perhaps that is a good reason to have them on our side instead of China's or Iran's.

Stufff like that is produced in a score of third world countries. The US doesn't need India for anything.

Yaaaaaa - many people have experienced their "tech support" - can't even understand what they're saying.

Since nobody will stop Iran, everybody is getting nuclear weapons.

All I can say is wow. After decades of the US treating other currencies like garbage, finally you get to experience the extreme hardship of buying and using another countries currency.

That's a very ignorant thing to say. India is quickly becoming the Silicon Valley of Asia. They have begun producing advanced computer technology and form the base line for many technological achievement in Asia. I can see them becoming a country like France where most electronics are produced before being compiled into a final product in Japan or the US.

Did you know that your TV's parts were probably made in France and only assembled in Japan?

Everyone who helped me with my problems with Vista was Indian and I understood them fine. I actually complemented all them on the fact that they spoke great English considering that ours is the most difficult language on the planet (the only language recognized as Category 5 by the US government).

But then again I'm not an ignorant nationalist that has never left the North American continent, so maybe that gives me a leg up on knowing when people actually speak english well...

Yeah Iran will get simple nukes, do you want India to give them more advanced electonics for missile guidance and weapons yeild? I mean you've already said that we don't need India's market, so they've got to find one somewhere.

Stimulus: Somebody, somewhere does something that possibly reflects poorly on the United States.

Response: Blade says "who needs them, anyway?" and questions their guts, work ethic, hygiene, parentage or sanity.

No, really; it never gets old. It's just as fresh the 100th time as the first.
