Wal-Mart eats up mom and pop stores and is abusive towards customers.

So don't shop there....

Shop at the mom and pop stores then. Wal-Mart is a store that is there for profit, I doubt that they abuse customers because that would cause loss of profit over time.

I have never been abused by anyone at Walmart?

Yeah I really can't think of a time I wasn't treated well. I'm pretty sure they fire you if you treat customers poorly. I suppose they could have a slightly more lenient return policy.

Of course it does gobble up little stores....

Well then apparently people are masochists. Cause the only reason they have the power to eat up mom and pop stores is because others go there.

Liberals (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) about Wal-Mart, and Wal-Mart is the backbone of the working class. They can get pretty much everything they'd need or want there at a decent price.



No Wal-Mart means less access to goods, more specialty instead of broad supply stores, and get this.. less employment.

Mom and pop stores don't have the money or need to hire tens of thousands of workers, Wal-Mart does. So when you destroy Wal-Mart, you take away millions of jobs and consumer options.


And then what? We're unemployed, demoralized, what would liberals do about this mess they made?

Why they'd increase government and blame republicans that's what they'd do. And people now with no money or no options, have whatever the government finds fit for them to have. Cause poor little citizens, they have nothing!

Well no (*)(*)(*)(*)ing duh they have nothing. You took away their jobs, their options, and their oppurtunities.

For people who are such pro-working class and pro-choice, they sure like screwing us over time and time again in these areas.

Um yeah, because before Walmart became a behemoth no one had jobs or opportunities. Nature abhors a vacuum, and so does capitalism. Those mom and pop stores and other retailers would be jumping all over themselves to fill the void left behind by Walmart if it were to ever go away.

While I won't shop at Walmart because I dislike the atmosphere and haven't been to one with happy employees, I do respect how they have grown their business. I will give them props for their "cut prices" philosophy when it has been applied ethically. Sam Walton was a spendthrift and his attitudes set the corporate culture.

Since his death however, when ethics and profits collide, Walmart has had a disturbing trend to look to the profitable, rather than the ethical, solution. In health care, for example, they minimized benefits, had high premiums and deductibles, and maximized the amount of time an employee had to be there to get insurance. The result of this was low employee participation in their plans and employees forced to look elsewhere for insurance. Finally, a lot of public outrage over the publicizing of the fact that many Walmart employees were looking to the government for health care made people realize that Walmart was padding its profits on the taxpayer's dime. Walmart has made some changes, but only because they got caught.

And let's also mark that the imports of the "backbone of the working class" is costing the working class their jobs. Kind of a nasty little Catch 22 that we have all built together.

its also the 6th largest charitable corporation in the world. and if you add in sams club and the walton family it comes in either second or third.. that evil company... right?

Being 6th, when you ARE the largest corporation in the world is really something to crow about.

According to Fortune Magazine, they are the largest corporation with revenues of $351B. Number six is Toyota woth $204B, less than 2/3rds as much. Coming in 6th in charitable donations when you have that kind of lead really isn't impressive.
