Icon14 What Recession? First Quarter GDP Shows Growth

Ha ha ha ha ha! You nattering neighbobs of negativity have that coming to ya! Guess you'll have to wait a couple more quarters to see if you talk the economy down into a recession!

Quote:
The nation's economy grew at a modest but better-then-expected pace last quarter, posting a 0.6 percent increase despite the continuing housing and credit problems plaguing many Americans.

Many analysts were predicting gross domestic product (GDP) growth would come in at 0.5 percent during the January — March 2008 period. Earlier this year, some economists thought the economy actually would lurch into reverse during the opening quarter.

The latest numbers reported Wednesday by the Commerce Department also did not meet what economists consider the classic definition of a recession, a retraction of the economy. This means that although the economy is stuck in a rut, it is still managing to grow, even if the growth is modest.

o.6% growth, okay its growth, but friend you have to look at it more deeply than that, employment levels, income levels, its more than just growth, true enough 0.6 is growth, but with our knowledge of economics using a definition developed in the 1950's is not on.

Why are you so invested in a bad outcome?

Unemployment levels are at near all time lows.

That's true, it's also about negative propaganda and demo-commie lies targeted at retards who believe falsehoods in the face of incontrovertible evidence which clearly shows them erroneous. Liberalism is nothing short of a religious cult.

So you admit that we had growth?

Why would we have to redefine recession? So that you can say we are in a recession when the president is a republican, and say that it is not a recession when the president is a democrat? The libs are all about redefining stuff just to suite their agenda.

And like Billybob says, unemployment stats are lower than under Clinton, and I too have made more money in the last few years than ever in my life.

I dont think it has any bearing whatsoever when some of you are saying "I made more money last year than at any time in my life"

I think thats great, and honestly im really happy for you guys. Personally last year sucked for me because I worked for a ******* idiot and finally had to tell him what I thought about him and so I was looking for work for a few months lol. My wife though made more money than ever last year....Although part of that was working alot of overtime for those two months while I was out of work. lol.

But hey I think its great that the economy did better than expected. Why would anyone WANT the economy to do poorly?? Hey I dont like Bush, but why in the world would I be rooting against the guy? If he does good then wouldnt it be good for the rest of us??

Now with that said, I dont think that 0.6% is anything to get excited about. However if its a sign that we aren't in a recession then thats a good thing.

That's better. Just cut it off after "everything is rosy."

really the US is undergoing a structural change, manufacturing figures are not that great, what are those people going to do, the US needs to demand that China floats their currency, http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7377965.stm, otherwise jobs are just going to be lost and replaced by what, but on the bright side, there are industries about to boom, alternative energy for example, http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24387781/, remember Rockefeller still remains the greatest businessman ever to walk this earth. Nobody can compare.
