You'll never be able to erase corruption in politics.. thinking its possible is foolish. A far more practical approach is simple limiting power of government to prevent damage..

If we got rid of those two things, would anyone still live in Washington?

I doubt it... But if you take enough power out of government, there's always someone to assume control of the left over power. Whether it corporate America or some other source... Power simply doesn't just dissipate into thin air.

This same FDA is the one that prevented Thalidomide from becoming available in the U.S. For those that may not be aware, Thalidomide was a drug given to pregnant women back in the 50's and 60's to curb morning sickness. It was eventually discovered that it caused many babies to be born with missing or grossly deformed limbs.

Getting back to the food inspection part of the discussion (though this would also apply to the drug side), whomever is conducting the inspecting needs to be neutral, and indifferent to lobbyists and financial incentives.

I can just imagine the FDA (if privatized) causing widespread shortages by speculating on foreign markets and hording foodstuffs to make a better profit.

NO THANKS!
