Default Our biggest threat - the evil OPEC

The link is already old, oil gained $10/barrel in one day, 6/6/08. Is this even a problem? If it is, then what can we do about it? Can high oil prices lead us to invest more in alternative energy?

Maybe it's time to look at selective drilling at home with strict pollution and emission standards? They say that even if we start drilling now, it would take 10 years for that oil to come to market.

Is this a problem or not? Do we act?
The Anti-American OPEC Monopoly

OPEC was created in 1960 by Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. It now includes nine other oil-producing nations – Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Indonesia, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Its stated goal is “to co-ordinate and unify petroleum policies among Member Countries, in order to secure fair and stable prices for petroleum producers.”

But in reality, its effect is less than “fair” and “stable,” said Cato Institute Senior Fellow Jerry Taylor. He wrote in March 2004 that OPEC contributes to the instability of oil prices...

Ah, yes. We head up that way to go to the 5-Seasons Brewery every now and then.
I live just down the road from there. Good food for a brew pub.

If you are going to walk in Atlanta, stay on the sidewalk. We have too many places without them. I do not advise walking otherwise.

I had a few near death experiences riding a motorcycle on a bypass highway in Atlanta.
I think it was 285? Been awhile, I think that was the road.

Crazy folks, Chicago drivers are also really aggressive.

You probably are referring to the 285 super speedway.

Funniest part is the speed limit actually says 55.

That makes sense.
My life flashed before my eyes on several occasions.

Iraq is safer.

Doing 55 on 285 is a deathwish... I'm a pretty nice guy, but if your going less than 70, I'm going to run you down.

Aye, when I was trying to find a place to live in Atlanta, I rented a compact car (a Mitsubishi Galant) that had a top speed of about 65. I had the pedal to the metal and was still pissing people off in the slow lane on 285. I can almost swear that some old granny flipped me the bird.

Likely was. You are right. Go to war. Your odds of surviving are far better. We get very frequent reports of dead motorcycle riders. And we don't even have that many cyclists (for obvious reasons).

There is no reason to suspect that the price of oil will stop rising. The mechanisms for this have presumably already been explained to you.
