Default Patriotic education...is it necessary ?

Hi,

I'm fresh member of this forum so I don't know if there was a similar topic. I came from Poland. In my country our Minister of Education is planning to introduce to schools special lessons of "Patriotic education". IMHO it's not a bad idea...but main problem is what he want to teach. I've heard that in USA there is sth like that. So my question is what it rely on ? Please share your opinion about this lesson and what is patriotism to your mind.

Best wishes

PS. Sorry for grammar mistakes.

Patriotic education? Sounds more like propagandic indoctrination.

Education shouldn't be use to induce patriotism. It is something that should naturally manifest within individuals when they admire the positive accomplishments of their own nation.

If education needs to be manipulated to induce patriotism within the public, something is wrong with that nation.

I couldn't agree more.

Default Teach the History

I as well am new to the forums and am excited to start posting. I say teach the History. Patriotism is defined differently by the individual.

Default re: Patriot Education

I think if American Movie Industries made Patriotic Movies half as good as the Chinese do we wouldn't have a decline in Patriotism, Sense of Communal Responsibility and pride in our Country and it's People.

Then again, I'm speaking as someone who doesn't live in China or keep up on their news regarding their patriotism or lack their of. I just know that after watching Wong Fei Hong movies, Fearless, Drunken Master II and many movies were the Chinese are dealing with the Boxer Rebellion, the Japanese Empire.., I end up feeling very proud for them at the end. Haha.
