I am very confused by those who STILL support the Republican party. So let me ask a simple question to better understand this position. The Republican party controls all three branches of government and has pretty much had the run of the country for the past 6 years.
What are the three most important things that they have accomplished in this time that cause you to continue to support them? |

I asked for three most important for a sense of priority. I could've come up with a laundry list of things they did and just assume that if you support the Republicans you'll defend those things. Give it some thought and think out of these things what are you most proud of - with 6 years of having the greatest power in the world - what is it that they did that you are most impressed with?
For example, are you impressed that they got a bill through against child predators? Hardly a controversial issue that takes six years of good political work to accomplish (obviously this bill was a no-brainer with across the board support) |

2. Defense. 3. Defense. We now have two fewer threats than we had before. If the Democrats had been elected instead, it is likely those threats would still exist. They also accellerated development of various defense programs, including National Missile Defense....which IMO will become crucial in the future. The Democrats certainly would not have done that, and some of them would have actively tried to kill it alltogether. Quote:

The basic results you get from the two main political parties are the same. Regardless of what their platforms lead you to believe, I can basically spell out what the two parties actually stand for in simple terms:
Republican Party: Increased spending- deliberate deficit spending. Democratic Party: Increased taxation and spending. Republican Party: Government invasion of privacy and denial of due process. Democratic Party: State control over education and gun ownership. Republican Party: Adding a dash of theocracy while opposing liberties like free speech and gay rights. Democratic Party: Interfering with reverse discrimination in hiring and restricting smoking to "protect" us. Republican Party: Destructive destruction through a mindless "bomb first and ask questions later" approach. Democratic Party: No clear ideas on foreign policy except entanglement in the UN and treaties like the Kyoto Protocol. Republican Party: The outcome of this party's policies is the expansion of government and a decrease in the liberties and happiness of the American people. Democratic Party: The outcome of this party's policies is the expansion of government and a decrease in the liberties and happiness of the American people. Why anyone would support either major party is beyond me. Granted, people like Ron Paul and members of the Democratic Freedom Caucus are exceptions, but for the most part the two major parties are statist and damage America. I would prefer the Constitution Party or the Green Party to either major political party, and, although it is too extreme on some issues, I prefer the Libertarian Party to any other American political party. I will register as an Independent, though.

Especially the part about "statist". I have just changed my official registration to "Independent". I can no longer in good conscience support the Republican Party. It's become a deeply entrenched Statist machine. I once again refer y'all to Albert Jay Nock, especially his most famous work "Our Enemy the State". Read about Nock here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Jay_Nock Buy his book here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...90238?v=glance In my opinion, this book is required reading for every serious student of politics and government. |
