If that McCain rumor were to come true, I think it would be the clincher in who I vote for in November.

Ditto here. There's talk of McCain switching parties, but I wouldn't want him to and doubt if he will . There are so many Republicans who wanted him instead of Bush, that a Kerry/ McCain ticket would be a cinch. It'll be interesting (to say the least) if this happens.

But that would be true for me as well. I'll probably vote for Mr. Excitement anyway, but a Kerry/McCain ticket would get me enthusiastic about it.

Default ...

A bipartisan Presidential campaign would be amazing - not to mention historic - but I sincerely doubt it will happen. It would be political suicide for McCain as a Republican.

I think Clark's a good candidate. Kerry's perceived as stronger than BUsh on domestic issues, weaker than Bush on international defense. (Reiterating: Perceived, not necessarily an accurate representation.) Clark, given his very recent war experience, would be an excellent boost to this facet of Camp Kerry.

Default re McCain

McCain would only join Kerry to get even with President Bush, do you really want to elect him for that reason? Two guys mentally scarred from their experience in Viet Nam does not a winning ticket make. Especially in a time of war and with the military despising Jane Fonda Kerry I don't think it matters who he chooses to be his losing mate.

I like how you throw out that they're mentally scarred, like they're shellshocked patients rocking back and forth neurotically in a mental ward. It's so very convincing.

To get to the level both of them have in their careers, they seem extremely functional to me. Arguing that anyone who lived through the front lines of a war is mentally unfit to be President is ridiculous - at least they can appreciate the reality of war and the true meaning of dying on the battlefield - something that Bush clearly hasn't the slightest mental grasp of.

Default I doubt it...

I doubt that Kerry could get McCain to run with him as Democratic VP candidate. I think it ironic how some discuss this possibility in the first place.

McCain was a P.O.W. for years and tortured while in captivity.

Kerry was only "in country" for 4 months. Then spends the beginning of his political career falling all over himself trying to normalize relations with Vietnam.

I have this mental image that after shaking hands with Kerry, McCain immediately whips out the hand sanitizer.
