A while back, I emailed my Congressman, Republican Mark Green regarding the Federal Marriage Amendment.
I've attached an image of his response, as well as an image of the most interesting paragraph.
"As you may know, while I believe in the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman, I had remained hopeful existing laws that addressed this matter would be sufficient, and was reluctant to change our Constitution. However, the recent rulings of the Massachusetts Supreme Court affording the
same legal rights of marriage to homosexuals as to heterosexuals under its state constitution combined with the issuance of thousands of marriage licenses to same-sex couples in San Francisco have finally led me to believe our only option for preserving traditional marriage is a Constitutional amendment."
I admire the guy's honestly, at least he says right out, it's about "the same rights" and not "special rights" or some garbage like that. He openly admits it's all about preserving inequity.
Nice folks.
Feel free to call Congressman Green with your own opinion about equality.
