Default Michigan Primaries Moved Closer

It seems the Michigan primaries are being moved ahead to January 15. All the Democratic candidates are supposed to boycott my state now. This brings up a few questions.

What exactly is this boycott? Just no physical appearances in the state? No mention of the state?
And what good does it do? Sure it was a great deterrent... but how pragmatic is it to ignore a state that will now j=have a large influence in shaping the momentum of the primaries?

Seems to me they'll have to address us one way or the other. I'm not so sure I agree with Michigan's move... but now that it's happened, what is the point of ignoring Michigan? We're bigger than Iowa and according to a lot of market research companies, the metro-Detroit area is a great microcosm for the nation as a whole.
It would be dumb to pretend nothing happened. Of course it would also be dumb to break a promise. Dumb if ya do, dumb if ya don't.

What's happened is some within the democratic party (leftwingers) think iowa and new hampshire have a stronger voice than they deserve, insofar as they don't represent liberal enough constituencies. The mainstream opposes the move of some 15 states to stage earlier primaries.

Well it kind of makes sense to have states like Michigan and Florida and Ohio start off the primaries, being states that a) have demographics more closely resembling the rest of America and b) states that tend to swing between Democrats and Republicans on national elections (not that it matters much in primaries).
Iowa's sacred place only really makes sense from a sort of "affirmative action" mindset. It's a low-population farm state and provides a boost for other low-population farm states by being early.

But I think if people are going to question the wisdom of the current order, they should do it in a smarter fashion. By pushing the primaries, Michigan Democrats have only put national candidates in a (*)(*)(*)(*)ed if ya do, (*)(*)(*)(*)ed if ya don't position.

Default Here's a thought.

Don't allow early primaries. Think about it. Very, very, very few people vote in primaries to begin with. Losers in the earliest primaries often quit the race, leaving the rest of us with fewer choices. A few primaries later we generally have our candidates. Or maybe 2 choices. So in essence we just allowed a very small segment of our country's population decide who can be President.

Why don't all primaries happen at once. I realize that might hurt the parrties' strategy and all... but no one would be in a position to complain.

Looks like the Dems are pissing off a lot of their constituents.

Nothing new, especially in Michigan. The buddy-buddy sect of our state Democratic Party is obnoxious... but Detroit loves 'em.
I support the national Democratic Party, despite its convoluted haphazard infighting makeup... but some of the Michigan Crats scare me sometimes... Can you believe some were calling for a "net worth" tax? What could be dumber than that?
So it doesn't surprise me at all that the Michigan Democrats would do something like this, even at the expense of the national party.
I usually don't even vote for Democrats in state government elections... There are some districts where even the Republicans look better...

But for the most part our whole state sucks. In a way it's reasonable for the politicians here to grasp at any straw to give this state relevance again.

But don't think for a moment that the Michigan Republicans aren't happy. It makes them more relevant as well.

any primary before the south carolina primary makes moderate Republican candidates happy -especially after what they did to McCain last time.

Maybe they moved the Michigan primary to Appalachian State?
