Icon19 Is Sen. Obama being set up by the political machine?

Can a black man actually be elected in this country as President?

Has this country truly moved passed the color barrier?

Many claim that they could vote for a black man for president, but does that change once they are in the voting booth?

Can black people really trust either party?

"The two parties have combined against us to nullify our power by a ‘gentleman's agreement' of non-recognition, no matter how we vote ... May God write us down as asses if ever again we are found putting our trust in either the Republican or the Democratic Parties." -- W.E.B. DuBois (1922)

Do these words still hold true in 2008?

Obama dominated in Iowa which is a 98% white state. I would have to say for at least part of the country the answer is "yes." At my caucus in a suburb of Des Moines I caucused for Obama and of the 150 people who were with me I didn't see a single black person.

The title of the post didn't match the post.

What would "being set up" mean?

What would the ramifications be if it was true?

Obama is my current favorite because I think he is his own man. But I still think of him as a two dimension TV image. I look forward to learning more about him as the scrutiny dial gets turned up.

Do you grasp that someone may have "moved passed the color barrier", and still not support Obama?

Could we not hope the same for those who DO support him?

We WOULD hope that, but nobody has to give a reason why they did or didn't vote for anyone. In the current day widespread anti-Christian bigotry of liberals, THAT is apparently an OK reason to not vote for someone. The Pee See code sanctions some bigotries and not others.

Default yeah, what's up with the thread title?

I'm curious about the thread title too. What's up with that, Super?

Did you mean that Obama's being set up "for a fall", or what?

I think, if I'm not mistaken, that this recent comment by Hillary about MLK and LBJ, is going to have a galvanizing effect on the black vote in many places. We've already seen it down in South Carolina, yes?

I mean, the instant realization has to be, that the act of electing a black President of the United States, will mean more than having any kind of "proxy" in place in that regard, yes?

And so I suspect that what you'll see as a result of that little tidbit from the Hillary camp, is the exact opposite of the intended effect.

I mean, you know, from "my" viewpoint as an average white male, I'm liking what I see in Obama so far, it seems like he's a good man and it also seems like he's got some smart people in his corner - and I'm kinda looking around at the "rest" of the field, and I'm not liking what I'm seeing very much (with the possible exception of Ron Paul, who I respect mainly because of his level-headedness and his willingness to push the truth into the weasels' faces) - and what I can say for Obama so far, is that next to Ron Paul, he's probably the guy who's told the fewest lies.

And that, means a lot, in today's politics.

I would love to see Obama debate Ron Paul - I'll just bet they'd see I to eye on a lot of thing. Not "everything", but "enough", right?

I wish this country would advance MLK's dream of judging people only by character but those people who claim to be for civil rights today, only see one thing and that is race. The naacp, black caucus, and things like black history month are only about examining the race of individuals. MLK's legacy has been stolen by racists.

Obama will probably lose because he doesn't offer much content to judge him by. He has good looks and he's a smooth talker. He would make for a good car salesman, except his socialist policies would probably bankrupt the dealer.
