Quote:
LAS VEGAS - Amid growing worries about a worsening of the U.S. economy, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama proposed a $75 billion economic stimulus plan on Sunday that includes worker tax credits, a one-time pension supplement and help to homeowners facing foreclosure.

The plan would include an immediate $250 tax credit for workers, which could double if the economy worsens, a one-time $250 supplement to Social Security payments, a $10 billion fund to help homeowners facing foreclosure and a $10 billion fund to assist states facing budget shortfalls amid lower tax revenues.

"We need that middle-class tax cut now more than ever — not five months from now or five weeks from now, but now," Obama said in a statement. "I'm announcing a plan to jump-start the economy by putting money in the pockets of those who need it most and will spend it quickly."
And this money is coming from where ????

Just more spend spend spend from the government. Whether republican or democrat, all you hear is promises of spending money without anyway to pay for it. Wasn't Obama a Paygo guy?

Quote:
Reinstate PAYGO Rules: Obama believes that a critical step in restoring fiscal discipline is enforcing pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) budgeting rules which require new spending commitments or tax changes to be paid for by cuts to other programs or new revenue.
Geez, the guy isn't even elected yet and he is breaking campaign promises.

Are you really surprised?

Since the start Obama has been talking like JFK without the backgrounf of JFK..how in the hell did you think he was going to pay for all that?

Tax&Spend. Its not just a saying.

Only reason he said it(more then likely) is that since the Democrats shafted Michigan(Hillary left her name on the ballot though and will win it) Nevada is the only state before South Carolina (South Carolina is the only thing that can keep Obama alive until he's done in around Super Tuesday) and IF he can beat Reids Hillary machine there he will look alot better going into SC.

In effect he's pulling a Hillary. Promising or supporting something that appeases the people in front of his face at that moment.

Default yeah, this is the same crap Bushie pulled

Well, it seems Obama took his lesson from Bushie, 'cause I mean, he's the original master of the "direct rebate", yes?

Here - elect me, and I'll give you some money - only, I'm not gonna tell you it's really your money to begin with - I'll just make it seem like Uncle Sam's being generous.

So yeah, Obama's amount is the same as Bushie's, his was either 300 bucks or 600 bucks, and I mean, Hillary's got the same thing going too, right? So, let's see, do I hear 800? 850? How about a thousand?

You know, the terrible thing about "economic stimulus", is that the people being stimulated, are over in China. When 'Mericans get a windfall like that, what do we do? Yep, you guessed it - straight to Circuit City, or Wal-Mart, or any of Chairman Hu's other retail outlets.

So, I mean, further drain out of US coffers and into Chinese banks. Brilliant - simply brilliant. And I mean, you know, it takes a Dem to latch on to a stupid Republican idea, right?

There's been talk of an "economic stimulus" for awhile now and '08 candidates are trying to trump each other (and Bush). Giuliani is calling for a big corporate tax break and a tax break balanced towards the wealthy. Others, mainly Dems, are targeting the working class, as is typically the case.

Obama might respond by either saying that letting the Bush tax cuts on the wealthy expire more than satisfies PAYGO in this instance or that "emergency" stimulus packages are exceptions (tends to be a slippery slope). The latter isn't a bad defense. Alan Greenspan is a vocal supporter of PAYGO yet he supports measures similar to these as a way to keep the economy from tanking too badly.

Any such phony "stimulus" at best works for awhile, followed by a slump. It would be functionally the same as people recently bidding up house prices beyond their true market value.

A real, lasting stimulus would be doing those things that would make the US more competitive in the world.

Only thing worse is borrow and spend.

And I see this as more borrow and spend. Which is what I have been pissed at the republicans for since Reagan. So now this looks like Obama is taking a page from the republican book and it ticks me off.

The only real fiscal conservative is Ron Paul.

Default Amazing, simply amazing

Wow, a politician pandering to the public, imagine that. When it gets right down to it, we are all to blame. The American workers demand $80 an hour for putting 2 screws in a car fender, so business looks elsewhere to cut their spending so they can provide products to the American spending machine. Then the majority of America continues to buy everything from poisoned food, to in the near future, automobiles from countries like China, because they are cheap. Now on one hand, they want goods and services cheap, and on the other they want high paying jobs, which is it? Along comes the pandering lying politicians that promise you anything but in reality only offer a finger in the dike, (I'm not talking about Rosie O'Donnell) and we are suppose to act surprised? Yeah, right

This is as stupid as the paradox of Walmart, they provide the greatest provision of goods and services to the poorest of America, and yet the left demands Walmart provide the highest of wages and benefits to their employees, which most of Walmarts cheap goods come from China, which in turn hurts the American worker, amazing, simply amazing.

And politicians continue to pander.

Pretty much.

I support Obama, but I'm under no delusions that he's a miracle. He's just rather good at getting people motivated and organized. Unlike Hillary who would polarize the nation further, win by a GWB margin... or possibly win by congressional election after Bloomburg enters the race...
A politician can at least do some good by inspiring the people and getting their backing.
Obama is probably the only candidate capable of accomplishing that in this campaign.

"The only real fiscal conservative is Ron Paul."

Paul isn't a fiscal conservative. He's a tinfoil hatted libertarian who doesn't believe in government funding of anything, like roads and schools. Please. Like that would work in this day and age.
