Here's the difference, between a public school in Compton, and private school in Beverly Hills.

In Beverly Hills, every student is given a chance to go the "college prep" route - you know, become a "preppie", like they used to call 'em. That opportunity is available to everyone, and I mean, some people might not make it, they might flunk out or whatever, but if you want to try to do that, you can.

In Compton, they're not gonna give you that opportunity. They will not let you embark on a college prep course of study, if your test scores indicate that you "wouldn't succeed".

That's the difference.

Duhhhhh, ya think? Schools are paid for by people who live in the district. If people in the district are poor, so will be the schools. If you have young men who serially f___ and dump pregnant women, you will be poor. If you have a gang culture, you will be poor. If you have drug habits, you will be poor. End these social pathologies, and the chain of logic reverses all the way back. Quantum mechanics? Noooooooooo.....

Yes I do - the homeownership rate in 2000 was 56.3%, 0.6% below the average for all of california, and certainly must have significantly increased since then.
