I calculated the percent change in federal government expenditures (not adjusted for inflation) on a different thread. Under George W. Bush, federal government expenditures increased 60 percent. Under Barack Obama, they have increased 5.3 percent.
If one divides percent change in federal government expenditures under Bush by 8, the amount of years in office, one can conclude that President Bush increased federal government spending by 7.5 percent each year. For all intensive purposes, President Obama has been in power for 3 years and 4 months. This means annual federal government expenditures have increased by approximately 1.6 percent since he has taken office.
