Default Romney says Rubio is being vetted for VP

This surprises me.. I can't imagine Rubio wanting to be Mytt's VP. To me its not the best move for Rubio's political career.

Romney says Rubio is being vetted for VP

Mitt Romney told reporters in Michigan that Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is being looked at as his possible running mate, adding that a news story out earlier today about the Tea Party favorite not being vetted was "entirely false."

"Marco Rubio is being thoroughly vetted as part of our process," Romney said during a campaign stop in Holland, Mich.

ABC News had reported this morning that the freshman senator was not being vetted to be Mitt Romney's running mate. The report cited "knowledgeable sources."

    STORY: Rubio's 'American Son'

The ABC report said Rubio "has not been asked to complete any questionnaires or been asked to turn over any financial documents typically required of potential vice presidential candidates." But it went on to say that it was "possible that Rubio may yet be asked to go through the vetting process."

"There was a story that originated today apparently at ABC based upon reports of supposedly outside unnamed advisers of mine. I can't imagine who such people are," Romney said. "But I can tell you this: They know nothing about the vice presidential selection or evaluation process. There are only two people in this country who know who are being vetted and who are not and that's Beth Myers and myself.

"The story was entirely false," he said. "Marco Rubio is being thoroughly vetted as part of our process."

Myers is a longtime trusted adviser to Romney and served as his chief of staff when he was Massachusetts governor.

Rubio has refused repeatedly to say whether he is being vetted, out of "respect for the process" and Romney.

Still, Rubio's name is frequently mentioned as a possible VP contender and former Florida governor Jeb Bush is among those who have been touting the Tea Party favorite as a top pick. Rubio has been highlighted as someone to watch ever since he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010.

Why is it a surprise? He's just another fake like Romney.

Rubio is probably the best pick. The democrats will have a hard time attacking him because it may come off as an attack against immigrants so they will have to tread lightly.

Any references to his heritage and the right can play it up and make him look like a victim of intolerance.

However, a VP pick is usually considered on the basis of what they can bring in terms of demographics or votes within a region, particularly a state. Florida is already solidly in the republican camp so it might be a waste of a pick to take Rubio.

Unless they think that Rubio could deliver some good portion of the latino vote I don't see it happening. I haven't looked at his support within that community however.

Rand Paul would be the wisest pick Romney could make. Which is why Rand will be his running mate.

I doubt it. Why do you think Romney will pick him? I mean, there's no evidence Romney agrees on the wisdom of it, is there?

Rubio is a good man, but he might just be a bit too young for many Americans. Yes, the Latinos will perk-up a bit, but they also might feel he is being used by Romney to win the race and it could backfire. Rubios day will come, but it is 4 to 8 years away after he has been groomed a bit. Being vetted...no doubt because it creates news. Being chosen...a very long-shot at best.

First off Rubio is Cuban, the 'Latino's' don't two hoots in hell about Cubans so it will only gain him the Cuban vote, all 25 of them.
Next, isn't rubio a mormon too?
2 mormons on the same ticket?

...no, he's Roman Catholic. His family attended a Mormon church for three years, but he was 11 when they left and was baptized Catholic.

Never been and is not a Mormon.
