I have to agree with Duh on this one. It does hurt. True democratic moderates don't really care for Moveon.org and its one-dimensional tactics. In 2006 as a member of Moveon.org, I called tons of people in swing states to try to help return balance instead of giving Bush only the "check" side in government. Moveon.org had moments of effectiveness, but the "General Betray Us" comment was way beyond the pale for a lot of people... like me: any affinity I might have had for them is permanently gone. They showed themselves to be the true home of the loony left. At this point, they are parasitic, and it's too bad for Obama that he's even in the same sentence. I think it will be a net-negative for him.

my point is, its doubtful that anyone likely to vote dem would change their mind on a specific candidate simply because of a moveon endorsement. i like to think theres a difference between being indecisive and being moderate.

You can read about them...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MoveOn And check them out if you haven't already... http://www.moveon.org/ I think it's a pretty big deal, they've had some success backing political candidates. The idea that Obama is moving towards the left is a quote straight out of the Conservative 'Think Tank', the race is about the center, the all important biconseptual vote, and who they will vote for in November. As long as THEY convince the public (through the media) that Obama is moving left, the floating vote will shift towards McCain. At least I'm sure that's what they're "Thinking". Don't let them frame THEM frame the debate. And on a side note, what's wrong with the word "Left" anyway? Last edited by ziggy; 02-01-2008 at 06:37 PM. |

But to Hell with getting into that... Those on the edges will vote 'Party' anyway, so it's really all about the independants and the (would-be) non-voters. Obama might attract the illusive 'Youth Vote', and maybe he won't. Maybe the indies will find what they're looking for in Obama, and maybe they won't. It could be McCain who will win over the Center, and maybe he won't. Either way, there's still a long way to go, and Obama still has a "Hill" to climb, so I honestly believe that this "MoveOn endorses Obama" thread is more about the Obama - Clinton race, and getting the Democrats nomination. I'm sure we'll all find out if there's any strength behind this MoveOn business on Feb.5. |
