Default It's almost unbelieveable...

... that right-wingnuts on this board can hold up for worship a coward of a man who used his daddy's political influence to hide out in the Texas National Guard during Viet Nam (and didn't even complete that service), and at the same time denigrate a real hero who could have opted out also, but went and put his butt on the line.

Of course these are the same kind of people who tried to brand another real hero, Max Cleland, who left 3 of his limbs in Viet Nam, as "unpatriotic"!

Really pathetic!

Default Yep

He took back God!!!!!

He told how most God loving people feel when he said that religion is not something he wears on his sleeve--and spoke to people of all religions who are tired of limiting God to those who use fear appeals to divide!

He took back patriotism and put integrity back into the dialogue.

The only disappointment for me is the "up to $1000 credit for health care." But this is an issue that has to be incremental, I guess.

Republican's no longer "own" values, patriotism and God!

Default .

I see people defending Bush and I can never figure out why. Here is an ex-drug and alcohol addict who would be pumping gas in a small Texas town had it not been for his family's wealth (of course, assuming that he lived through his tour in Viet Nam -- which he would not have been able to avoid).

Even with the most expensive education in the world, he bankrupted companies so badly that he started to instruct investors, in his companys' prospectuses how to write off investment loses. If it weren't for rich people who wanted influence with his father, all of his companies would have dissolved into nothing.

He used his connections to pervert the 5th Amendment's implied right of eminent domain to such a degree that he was successful in ousting families from their homes just so he could make millions.

I could go on, but I have written all of this before.

What I can't understand is how anyone can defend and root for this man to win in 2004. I know Kerry might not be much better, but the fact that I doubt he can be worse is enough for him to get my vote.

I really try to understand how Bush fans think, but even though I whack myself with a rubber mallot over and over to try to get into the right mind set, I inevitably become unconscious before I can get to the required state of mind.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the election in 2004, but I remember hearing once not to underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. So, I wait to see if Bush gets a second term while I look at a map to see where the well-dressed soldier will be "vacationing" next summer.

Default I feel your pain PJO

Bush is such an incompetent leader it sickens me. He has no personal qualifications to be president.

He's an embarrassment to our country and has caused us nothing but trouble.

Yet the Republicans have brilliantly rallied their base to the point where it's impossible to convince them just how stupid the man is. They have coined brilliant catchwords like "blame America first crowd" and wrap their cause in jingoism and fear.

And then the left blows it because of people like Michael Moore who use lies and half truths of their own.

I can only pray that something changes, because it's just going to get worse from here.

Default kerry's speach

i think his speech was good last night. he made some really good points and said some really lasting quotes. there were some holes in his speech that i think repubs will act on and try to use in their negative commercial ads. but he got his overall message out into the open.

and for all the redneck repiglicans who didnt think he spoke very well, maybe next time he can speak a little slower for you to understand!

Default Attacking Speech

Kerry's speech was the height of hypocrisy. Towards the end he made a plea to Bush to....

"I want to address these next words directly to President George W. Bush: In the weeks ahead, let's be optimists, not just opponents. Let's build unity in the American family, not angry division. Let's honor this nation's diversity; let's respect one another; and let's never misuse for political purposes the most precious document in American history, the Constitution of the United States."

So, in the very same....the very same.....paragraph where he's saying, "let's play nice- nice".....he makes an attack on the president regarding the U.S. Constitution. And that was, of course, after ALL the other attacks on the President throughout his speech!!

Sure John......the president is going to allow you all the attacks you want and just won't answer them....he'll just sit back and take it and play "nice-nice" as you continue to attack. IN YOUR DREAMS!!!!

Default I personally thought it was ...

Brilliant!

I LOVED IT WHEN HE POKED BUSH RIGHT IN THE EYE!

Beautiful baby!

I was at a house party... the place went WILD!

More sour grapes. But I would expect nothing less from this poster.

Default A great night!

I thought the night went extremely well. All of the speeches were great. I liked Joe Biden a lot. He gave a great speech. General Wesley Clark was really wonderful. I thought Vanessa and Alex Kerry gave great, personal speeches and really showed what they learned from their father, the values, the confidence, the love he gave them really showed. I loved the story about him saving the hamster and I loved Alex's speech when she talked about realizing her father truly was a hero. Then, with his band of brothers from his swift boat, the man describing how John Kerry saved his life!!! He would dead if John Kerry hadn't acted!!! As for Max Cleland, it's hard not to feel for the guy no matter who you are! A true hero and patriot. As for Kerry himself, I thought he did a great job. I thought he gave non-dems a lot to think about for this election. Also, personally, what I like about Kerry is his belief that we all have a voice, even if you don't agree with it. This is where Bush has failed miserably. Bush has continued to appeal to his base with his religious references (in every speech), his war, and his constant need to keep people scared. In Bush's administration there is no room for opinion other than what they want you to say. ANYONE who disagrees with them is labeled anti-american or WORSE. I personally know quite a few Republicans who Bush has completely alienated. They won't vote for him again. I think John Kerry did a good job letting people know who he is, what he is about and how he will lead. He DID go to Vietnam, he did serve, he did save lives. He HAS faced death. He knows what the troops in Iraq and elsewhere are going through. He has been serving our country his entire life and I for one will do what I can to keep him going and get him to White House!

Default Well

I have to admit it was a good speech. A lot of the stuff I was wondering where he was going to get the money for. But he did seem to wish to strengthen the military and military spending (the best, most up to date equipment for our soldiers will cost a lot of money) and I like that. There was the normal hoopla. He delivered it well, still don't quite agree with him on everything though.

Default Still glowing from the speech!

And laughing.

JP5--you were much more honest on the other thread. The one where you said you had to ask your husband his opinion and did not understand the speech.

Now I guess you have a print-out.

LMAO

It's ok honey--you will no doubt be reading between the lines for awhile!

Tucker Carlson's reaction was hysterincal too. He admitted that a Bush win was no longer assured and asked the viewers to ask themselves a critical question.

YEP! I know that is the one question that has been burning inside me! LOL
