youre right, raeka, the problem with hillary is she tries too hard. if you want to score points with a particular comment, timing and tone is important. there are subtleties that make people respond more positively to certain individuals. whether intentionally or inadvertently, obama plays on this pretty well for the most part.

i see hillarys point on universal healthcare, but i think the idea of being forced to buy into it will turn off many people. in that sense i dont think its a strong point for her. we will see what happens, should be interesting. if obama gets it, i have a feeling he would choose someone whose views differ from his own to a greater extent than hillary. for hillary, obama would be a good vp because shes got the "inspired" voters to lose if she doesnt.

Most people won't be able to tell you anything more than "I just don't like her" because it's been drilled into their skull since the 90's.

This is a pretty funny live blog of the debate:

My favorite commentary from the link:

Quote:
9:31: Ugh. I'm bored with this. I see Stephen Green is drunkblogging. I'm blogging on Get Some ZZZ's tea. ("Brew a pot of our caffeine-free herbal blend and breathe a sigh of sweet relief as the bouquet of organic rooibos, soothing chamomile, passionflower and the mellowing properties of valerian gently lulls you toward blissful effects.") Now there's some talk of the superdelegates, and Hillary says well, you know there are these rules, but she's confident that there will be a united party in the end. Barack smirks.

9:38: At what "moment" in life were you most "tested"? Obama plugs in his life story — born to a teenaged mother, etc. He doesn't come up with a specific moment, and that annoys me, and you know one charge against him is that he lacks specificity. Hillary says that we all know she's had some challenging moments, and that gets a big audience response. "But... people often ask me... how do you do it... how do you keep going?" What the hell! She's reliving the crying moment in New Hampshire!
They played it safe, dull, and indistinguishable. Does not bode well for Hillary.

Default Police concerned about order to stop screening

one would think if any city in the USA would be the place to ensure uber- security of the president or presidential candidates it would be dallas
i guess stealing elections with hanging chads is not the only way to subvert a national election
Quote:
DALLAS -- Security details at Barack Obama's rally Wednesday stopped screening people for weapons at the front gates more than an hour before the Democratic presidential candidate took the stage at Reunion Arena.
The order to put down the metal detectors and stop checking purses and laptop bags came as a surprise to several Dallas police officers who said they believed it was a lapse in security.
Dallas Deputy Police Chief T.W. Lawrence, head of the Police Department's homeland security and special operations divisions, said the order -- apparently made by the U.S. Secret Service -- was meant to speed up the long lines outside and fill the arena's vacant seats before Obama came on.
"Sure," said Lawrence, when asked if he was concerned by the great number of people who had gotten into the building without being checked. But, he added, the turnout of more than 17,000 people seemed to be a "friendly crowd."
The Secret Service did not return a call from the Star-Telegram seeking comment.
Doors opened to the public at 10 a.m., and for the first hour security officers scanned each person who came in and checked their belongings in a process that kept movement of the long lines at a crawl. Then, about 11 a.m., an order came down to allow the people in without being checked.
Several Dallas police officers said it worried them that the arena was packed with people who got in without even a cursory inspection.
They spoke on condition of anonymity because, they said, the order was made by federal officials who were in charge of security at the event.
"How can you not be concerned in this day and age," said one policeman.

wonder if we are bypassing security checks at airports these days when the lines grow long?

I have no idea what this has to do with anything.

Well yeah thats the direct line of orders for a cop.....but who really made the decision that led to the order is left unclear.

This seems to highly suggest it was made by the "campaign"

My bet is the Secret Service was not thrilled but did what the campaign wanted.

Shrug..he didn't get shot..so whats the problem?
If they want to be dumb thats their problem.

Hillary won the debate anyway.

That second call from Michele Obama? What did y'all talk about?

I wasn't able to catch all of the debate either. From what I saw, though, Hillary's tone was very muted -- less confidence. Not sure that bodes well against a surging Obama. He took the high ground in some of the back and forth that made him appear a bit more presidential than Hillary. I can see now that it would be very hard for her to go negative and get anything out of it.

The moderators seemed to hit her with harder questions, but maybe she deserved it with some of her slogans/campaign rhetoric.

Advantage: Obama
