Default Does McCain really have a chance?

Seriously? Lets say Obama v.s. McCain...I bet Obama gets 60% of the popular vote? Is that crazy?

It's too soon to tell. But I think it would be accurate to say that if they lose it would be the Democrats once again snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Nader might help.

Better then Obama.
Don't believe me?..course you don't.....here I'll prove it.

Obama is bascially reliant on Ohio...he cannot flip any state from red to blue.

McCain has the potential of flipping a few states from the outcome of 2004..the most notable being Pennsylvania(if he takes Penn. the election is done and he wins)

OK now here we go.

Same state results as 2004(excludign Ohio)-Then Ohio decides it all again.

McCain gets it he wins with 286 Electoral Votes
Obam Gets it he win with 272 Electoral Vote.

Now lets say Obama wins Ohio But Mccain takes one of the below.

New Hampshire- McCain Wins with 270 Electoral Votes.
Conneticut- McCain Wins with 273 Electoral votes
Pennsylvania-McCain Wins this he Wins with 287 Electoral Votes.
Wisconsin- McCain Wins with 276 Electoral Votes.

McCain even has a decent chance of breaking 300 Electoral Votes. Obama doesn't.

Heres a website that allows you to play with states-
http://www.270towin.com/

Popular vote is irrelvant and Obama will never get 60% or anywhere close to it.

The Biggest mistake I think you and for sure many are making is applying the nomination process to the General Election..thats a fools ride. It leads to stupidity like "IT WAS STOLEN!"

Let's see now.....

A war hero versus an empty suit....

A Senator who has no earmarks versus one who does....

A Senator who will not raise taxes versus one who will....

A Senator knows a lot about foreign policy versus one who does not....

A Senator who will be strong and aggessive on terrorism versus one who will take us backwards.....

A Senator who has proven he can and will work with both sides in a bi-partisan manner versus one who only talks about it.....

That would be John McCain

The general election will be quite different from the Primaries. Obama will get 80 to 90% of the black vote----but then Democrats ALWAYS get 80% to 90% of the black vote; so that's no gain for the Democrats. Obama will get the labor vote---but then Democrats ALWAYS get the labor vote. BUT John McCain will not only get the conservative vote, he will also get a larger number of the Independent vote AND a good percentage of the more moderate, fiscally conservative Democrats.

In this case I think he means someone getting 60% of the popular vote which hasn't happened since 1972 I believe (Reagan just came up a little shy).

It would be interesting if that turned out to be the case AND that Duh2 is right. And it's just that Obama makes the blue states go ultraviolet instead of flipping states.

Still though there were a fair number of close races last time that could swing. For example if Obama gets New Mexico, Neveda and Colorado that would be enough. Or whatever. The point is there are actually a lot of ways for this to tip.

Gotta give him credit, at least he's consistent in smearing war vets.

Correction: Facing huge budget deficits, one who will roll back the tax cuts on the top 2% vs a flip flopper who's positions change with the wind...

McCain1 or McCain2? I like version 1 better.

McCain supports the Iraq war, which has broadened al Qaeda's reach substantially and has alienated our allies. I'll take Obama on this one too.

McCain Version 1 has shown some signs of that, although he's also a hot-head, flip flopper and "my way or the highway" Senator. Obama's career in the U.S. Senate is only a few years, but his experience is diverse.

Good point - same reason why McCain getting the white born-again conservative vote won't be a huge surprise, although expect Obama to do better in this area than Kerry did against Bush. In addition, there will be a higher turnout among blacks this election. McCain will do well among Latinos, with his "pro-amnesty" position. Obama has yet to make a strong connection with this large group.

A larger number? Independents lean Democrat, although McCain should get his share. Republicans put themselves in good contention by picking him over Romney but his pandering to the right and flip flopping could do him in. His appeal among moderates was McCain Version 1, not Version 2. The election dynamics will be different this time around. McCain is competitive in some traditionally blue states (i.e. MA) while Obama is strong in some red states (VA, SC, IA, CO). Should be interesting.

Whatever..

McCain decorated war hero. Family with a long standing military tradition of service continuing today with his kids..one of whom is in Iraq.

Obama a college kid. No military experience at all.

John McCain.

"He and Mr. Kyl are seeking the money through a free-standing bill introduced in December, an approach that Mr. McCain's aides call a far cry from what he finds most objectionable: furtive efforts to slip through last-minute spending projects without prior Congressional scrutiny."

http://www.taxpayer.net/

Obama $93,973,600 in 2007 alone.
McCain $0

Even if he has changed slightly on positons thats a far cry form that BS lie about only on Taxing the top 2%.

McCain has been consistently right on Iraq.

Obama.. like you... has been intentionally ignorant of Iraq.

McCain is bi-partisan and has proven it.

Obama is just a rubber stamp. One of the most predictable voters in the Senate. Completely partisan and liberal.
