Just thought I'd start the process off. They say that the 2nd spot doesn't matter, or does it? If we could find a nominee that will pick up a big state that traditionally goes to the dems, wouldn't that be an automatic win practically?

Here's one possible idea: former Lt. Gov Michael Steele of Md. Only problem, Md has only 10 electors.

Steele lost his senatorial bid there, so he wouldn't bring his home state with him. If he had won, I'd be rooting for him big time. As it is, his only claim to fame now is being Lt. Gov. I keep hearing good things about Florida governor Charlie Crist. I think the VP will matter this election on both sides.

Wait to see who wins the DNC. Pick a conservative woman or black man as appropriate.

If Colin Powell had been interested in the VP slot in 2000, he'd be or nominee today. Still, he might want to consider it this go around as McCain is more moderate than Bush. He might even take more than 50% of the black vote away from Obama bin Laden and that would cripple the dems chances of winning in November.

Also a good choice might be Lt. Governor Steele of Md. I'd like to see former Senator Rick Santorum but I don't know if he could deliver Pennsylvania.
