...very moving, one of the best I've heard on the topic, and better than expected. He dealt with the pastor issue directly and didn't take the politically convenient way out with canned lines and dodges, even though in my view he doesn't have to answer for his church's pastor. He makes McCain's "Straight Talk Express" look like a matchbox car.
I'd post a quote or two but it really needs to be read or listened to in its entirety. Obama wrote this speech himself, unlike most politicians. These are his words and thoughts, not someone else's. Unfortunately, I'm not sure most will read or listen to it, since TV media is focused on controversial 30-second soundbytes, which a few cherry-picked quotes from decades of sermons from a pastor nicely fit into and are easily replayed. http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/...ipt/index.html A good take from a well-known conservative: Quote:

Nah, he just promoted the status quo. Basically he can't condemn Wright because that's just how it's been. So much for change. He continues on the path of racial division as promoted by his church. Nevermind the fact that he lied. Yesterday he claimed to never have heard Wright make inflammatory remarks in the services he attended, now today he admits to having heard it.
Oprah left the church because of it's extremism but Obama can't grow a pair and do that.

I was moved as well, it is refreshing to see a man especially one in the political arena get up and speak the truth. Imagine that, a presidential candidate who is not afraid to tell the truth.
The funny thing is, I didn't even watch the speech until my Dad who has been a conservative for years called me and told me I needed to look it up on-line, and watch it. He was also moved by the truth that came from Obama. He said today that he has made up his mind in this election already. His first vote for the Democratic party in his lifetime. Hopefully other conservatives were just as moved, unfortuneatly from other threads on this site, I can see the party line is just too strong for them. I was told once a truth that I took to heart and believed in very strongly. A politician begins his life in the political arena with certain amount of integrity, as he continues his life in office he doles out that integrity seeking approval from others until there is nothing left. I actually believe I have finally seen a man today trodding through the political arena with his integrity intact. |

and thats as far as I read. If you expect me to consider Sean Hannity a credible source at a biased "news" network, then we should end the discussion now. |

Sometimes when I am trying to be serious I will try to examine my opinion
by creating logical exercises. I looked at the "guilt by association" problem with Wright and his Obama. The premise is that Wrights views are now to be understood as those of Obama... so would I put Wright in the White House as the Democratic choice? I had to laugh at my own response. I have spent so many years being disgusted by the hypocritical corrupted self ritcheousness of the Clintons I would choose the black radical. |

20 Years isn't Guilt by Association ... 20 Years is Association.
Difference is rather simple.
