Isn't there some rule about posting some text of your own in these kind of posts? I'll read it but, couldn't you have summarised or something?
Edit: Eh, he kind of just said no-one could have prevented it, but I don't believe that. Its always annoying with economics, but usually when someone loses, someone else is gaining, and they couldeither cause it or prevent it. I understand the economy isn't exactly McCain's forte, and I have to wonder whos briefing him. I meant to look into this more after Spitzers and Palast's condemnation of Bush and the OCC. Seeing as more regulation might actually mean returning to regulation that was already in place, its a little concerning that McCain is pleasing ignorance on everyone's behalf. Guess I'll follow up the Spitzer thing. As much as I like McCain(which is a bit) if "The federal government's actions were so egregious and so unprecedented that all 50 state attorneys general, and all 50 state banking superintendents, actively fought the new rules." (-Eliot Spitzer, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...021302783.html) is at all true than its a failing not to address this with more than just "...Lenders who initiate loans should be held accountable for the quality and performance of those loans and strict standards should be required in the lending process..." seems to be a return to how it was before anyway- with consumer-protection laws not being over-ridden- mneaning that this can happen again. Nice to hear he's open to ideas over dogma, I think thats true- sadly that'll depend more on what ideas he hears regarding the economy, as opposed to what ideas he has. Not a problem usually, but I don't like the advisors that usually surround right-wing governments. Last edited by Ronin-Talgar; 03-26-2008 at 01:58 AM. |
