Icon9 Obama's "punished with a baby" comment sparks protests

Philadelphia, Apr 3, 2008 / 10:48 am (CNA).- Christian leaders in the U.S. are demanding that Sen. Barack Obama apologize for comments he made referring to babies as a “punishment”.

While addressing a campaign rally in Pennsylvania last weekend, Sen. Obama said, "When it comes specifically to HIV/AIDS, the most important prevention is education, which should include -- which should include abstinence education and teaching the children -- teaching children, you know, that sex is not something casual," he said.

"But it should also include -- it should also include other, you know, information about contraception because, look, I've got two daughters. 9 years old and 6 years old," he added.

"I am going to teach them first of all about values and morals. But if they make a mistake, I don't want them punished with a baby," Obama said.

Personally, I'm pro-life - politically, I'm pro-choice. While Obama's comments are unfortunate, he has the right to think how he wants, as do all of us. This doesn't really make me want to vote for him any less because it doesn't go against the pro-choice policy I support.

This guy contradicts himself. Even most of the democrats behind closed doors, say they are stuck with him now, cause they did not check well his background before supporting him. Now they do not want to look like *idiots* and have to support him all the way. The guy will not win the Presidency mark my words.

if a woman has unprotected sex, she should face the consequences, pay the price, etc. isnt this what prolifers say when suggesting that the abortions promote carelessness? lol. more faked outrage from the crazies.

You are incorrect, per google the phrase mostly unique comes up with over 3 million hits making the use of the phrase not so unique. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

You really must stop beating around the bush...are you pro-life or pro-choice?

e·quiv·o·ca·tion 1. the use of equivocal or ambiguous expressions, esp. in order to mislead or hedge; prevarication. eg. "I am pro-life, but I am for a womans right to 'choose'" or "I support the troops, but not the mission"

New Conservative English Dictionary

i wouldnt have an abortion personally, but i wouldnt try to deny others the right to choose. i like chocolate ice cream, but you can eat vanilla if thats your flavor. prolife is the equivocation, life begins before conception, no one calls masturbation murder (well, no one i know of).

I'm not beating around the bush. You need to read my words carefully. If my wife were to get pregnant now, I would not want her to get an abortion, despite me going to medical school and her just starting her career. However, not everyone shares my beliefs and I don't want to impose my beliefs on others because I believe in one's freedom to choose.

*edit* If someone would come to me when I am a doctor and ask me to perform an abortion, I would refuse to do so, but point them in the direction of other doctors who would be willing to perform it for them.

What prolifers? A handful? Prolifers say live up to her responsibilities, not kill her baby for her mistake, etc. But defining a baby as punishment sounds like something the extreme left would say.
