The whole "Bitter" thing really bit him on the ass. I don't disagree with him. The only people that are really pissed about that statement are gun owning Christians that focused on the wrong issues. Oh my god! He said it at a closed door fundraiser? In San Francisco? My redneck evangelist intuition tells me that he's an elitist.

If a party effectively blocks out all non-white candidates from competing in their primaries, what better group to compare them to than the KKK?

That's not to insult anybody (if you vote for a racist party, why would you be insulted?): if you hate non-white and non-Christian people, than you're going to support the GOP (if not a third party candidate that shows more extreme bigotry than the GOP).

I don't see any of the gay and black bashers voting Democrat these days. But you're right: 120 years ago, the Democrats were the KKK party and the GOP were the liberals. Things have flip-flopped since then.

This is about America, the future of our nation!

I simply pointed out the facts of history. What did I say that made you believe I have a problem with any particular race? I simply have a problem with political parties that block-out anybody who doesn't fit a certain profile (and in the GOP's case, if you're not white and Christian, you don't get a shot at the nomination).

Why would you accuse me of having "racial issues" for pointing out historical facts? My whole point is that people of all races and religions should be given a shot at the nomination. I do have "issues", but my issues are with political parties that block people out who don't fit a particular profile.

The Democrats are not much better (since they still block out non-Christians), but they at least allow other races a shot at their nomination.

I agree. And I believe that Americans (being that we consist of just about every heritage) are better off without a racist party in charge. With an open-minded person like Obama in charge, we can continue to change our culture into one that gives everybody an equal opportunity to rise to the top.

If my comments came off as elevating racial tensions, that's not my purpose. I simply want leadership that will lead us towards a day where race is no longer an issue. While the Democrats have a long way to go, they're at least heading in that direction. The GOP, on the other hand, still excludes all non-whites from their major political processes, which disturbs the educated and open minded segment of our population.
