I wouldn't worry about it. It's just emotions. Once things calm down people will come back to earth. There will be a few months between who the dem's pick and the November election. Bush's approval rating was 91% a few days after 9-11 because of emotions.

Its not emotion its philosophy.

And a few months will not change a persons lifelong philosophy.

Nor will they forget their enemy candidates weak points. But they will often forget their strengths.

To the democrats Hillary and Obama have effectively cast themselves as opposite of each other. Opposite enough that their similarities are no longer seen by the general populous voting for them.

For this election it is a VERY good possibility that many democrat voters will not necessarily vote for the other candidate in their own party.

And McCain has been the 'Maverick' of the republicans for a long enough time that he is almost viewed as enough democrat by many democrats.

Now is this what you're hoping or what you truly believe?

I'm a moderate Democrat who will be voting for McCain. I wouldn't vote for Hillary if she were the last candidate on earth, and Obama is too liberal for me to support.

So, there it is.

Also, I like McCain and have always said I'd vote for him if he ran. I consider him closer to my views than most other Republicans.

p.s. If the Democratic party wants to win the votes of Centrist voters like me, they will need to start fielding candidates like Bill Clinton (though, not his wife)....i.e., Moderates.

[quote=ttfrenzy;501115]Hello All,
I am new to these forums and am simply trying to spread my view on the tiring and cumbersome Democratic primary election. I personally happen to be an Obama fan however, First and Foremost I am a Democrat (maybe socialist, still not sure) before being an Obama fan.
I am vehemently surprised at the supporters of both candidates who chose to say that they will vote for McCain in the general election if their candidate loses. It is with deep regret that I say that I am dissapointed and I condone the fellow democrats who speak this out of pure hatred for the infighting between the two candidates.
As both candidates have admitted they are the same on 90 to 95 percent of the issues (DEFINETELY THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR) and both would support each other in the case that one wins, I am here to ask why one would ever decide to switch, go against their party, go against what they believe, go against what they thing would be best for their nation and agitatively vote against a candidate who best represents their views.
As far as I know, this is a pointless and dissappointing decision and as an American who wants to be proud of his nation, I would like to know the reasoning behind such disgraceful action.
Thank you
ttfrenzy

I was a democrat until 4 years ago but now I am an independent voter who WILL vote for McCain if Hillary doesn't get the nomination! Why? Because I vote for the candidate that I feel will be the better president of our country not because I belong to a party line! I personally think it's STUPID to vote along party lines even if you don't like the person nominated. VOTE for who you think will be the better president not who your PARTY nominates!

I know several democrats who are totally AGAINST Obama too! They WILL vote for McCain because they seem to like him better than Obama...maybe it's his age and they are of like age ...50 or older while Obama is just a kid to them and to me! He is inexperienced, he has foot and mouth disease.

I think both candidates have too much baggage for supports of the loser in the democratic primary process to consider backing the winner. Those who refuse to vote for obama should hillary lose have I believe valid reasons for doing so...His bitter comments his controversial associations....and vice versa....Hillary's sniper fire words...Her real stance on Nafta and sean penn....These are valid reasons why they wont vote for them...as For mccain if they vote for him instead of Obama or Hillary....look at his record...a pow which gets sympathy vote from many americans and his 24 years of service in the US government....Those things outweight the democratic nominee's negatives. I think the democratic nominees would have been better served to themselves and democrats everywhere if they kept their mouths shut and cleanly cut ties from people who would be viewed as controversial by the general public.

Default Why would you vote for mccain if Your democratic candidate lost.

All you hillary supporters state why you would not vote for the winner of the democratic nomination if your candidate lost and would instead not vote or vote for mccain.

Not hope.

What part of McCain being known as the Maverick for the last ten years is not true?

Are the Democratic candidates viewed as different or the same to the democratic party voters? Obama and Hillary swear they are each different from the other.

The democratic voters will never forget this ugly fight. I for one will not let them. They will never forget the hatred expressed by the supporters of the other candidate.

This is my belief. We will see if I'm again right about this election. I was right about Bush the last two times.

If the democratic party wanted to win the election this year, they probably could have done it easily by picking a moderate democrat. McCain will probably pick up independents/moderates as well as republicans. I think Hillary would pick up a chunk of independents/moderates out of the pool as well as democrats if she were to run against McCain. Hillary vs McCain is probably a close match that I still see her losing. The only people who I think would realistically support Obama are democrats and those on the extreme left. He won't do well with independents and moderates, and he is disgusting to republicans.

With a moderate candidate there would have been the possibility of less conservative republicans from the group crossing over to the democrat side strictly because of disgust with the bush administration.
