My post would be too long if I listed all the issues I agree with him on but here's one and I'll post others subsequently:
Health care: more along the lines of what I want to see done. Why are me and my wife paying a 4000 dollar copay when we're 23? Why even bother having insurance if they aren't going to cover anything until we hit 4000 dollars? I like his approach better than Hillary's because he doesn't mandate health care like she does. Also he plans on lowering costs by modernizing the system to be more competitive (this is very anti-socialistic as opposed to what many people think). All these things are good for me and my wife, who currently can't afford the insurance she gets from her job (but have it anyway, just in case). Last edited by rodrigu3; 06-06-2008 at 08:51 AM. |

Well... because he is more in line with my own political views than McCain.
I also think he's got the charisma and the freshness, as cheesy as those concepts may seem, to get people engaged in the process and to improve our relations overseas (though either candidate would be an improvement over GWB). He's also, at least on paper (like everything said by these politicians), for greater government transparency and listening to varied viewpoints before making decisions. He wasn't my first pick. But as politicians go, he's alright. Not that I'd cry if McCain won. I think he's decent too, as politicians go. Sure I have some areas where I disagree with him, mostly on free trade... but oh well. I've yet to see a candidate I agree 100% with.

So have you decided or are you waiting for the debates before deciding. Giving each candidate a chance to speak for themselves 1 to 1? |

People seem to think that friendship for politicians is based entirely on politics. I can guarantee you that Wright is more than just the political caricature he has become. And since Obama's relationship with him is more on the personal level... I don't care. I associate with many people who hold political/religious views that disgust me. I'd hate to be a politician so that I have to distance myself from such people lest people assume I agree. Of course Wright offered no choice as he jumped at the chance for publicity to push out more of his own political agenda. What I've noticed about Obama... Other than his campaign team... he seems to associate with a lot of non-politicians... people who will yell whatever is on their mind without considering the ramifications. I actually find that comforting. Interestingly enough I'm not a big fan of the Clinton/Obama health plan. I'd prefer single-payer. The Clinton/Obama system is in many ways a hand-out to insurance companies.

I believe in moderation.
Obama is the moderate choice. There was a time when McCain was a moderate, but then he lost his bid to an ideologue, Bush, and subsequently turned into a conservative ideologue. This country needs to get it's priorities straight. We spend three times more federal dollars on police in Iraq, than police here at home. And guess what? Crime has gone up. We spend hundreds of billions of dollars on reconstructing Iraq, and guess what? Our bridges and roads and levies and dams are dilapidated. The conservative wave came to shrink government; but the bastardized manifestation increases the size of government, while making government more ineffectual. We need leadership that understands the government can't go in to debt for endless wars of choice. We need a leader that puts our infrastructure over those of other countries. We need a leader that reminds people there are things we expect from the government, and the government must do it. We need a leader that puts the individual, and the public long-term interest, ahead of short term corporate interests. |

I'm pretty certain I will continue to see both men in a relatively positive light.
