The reality is that the Islamic split happened nearly 1400 years ago, and there has been no discernible end to the resulting religious wars; the factions have been killing each other ever since, and with great gusto.

What makes George W. Bush (or anyone else, for that matter) think they can force a warring people to drop 13 centuries of their religious and cultural history to play nice "Because WE said you must!" is the question for the ages, but the bottom line is, it ain't gonna happen, folks. Not in two years, not in 10, or 100, or 1000.

It's long past time we cut our losses in Iraq and do what we set out to do - find bin Laden et al and nail them to a wall.
