Default John McCain hates the Magna Carta

It's a goofy name, but Habeas corpus has been the cornerstone of Western culture for 800 years. Before that, and in America since 9/11, the government can throw someone in jail and say "We have evidence that this guy did something, but we can't tell you what he did and we can't tell you how we know about it, so we're just going to throw him in jail for as long as we want." The US and UN write strongly worded letters when other countries do that.

Last week Justice Kennedy wrote a great decision returning basic rights to prisoners at Guantanamo. This line will probably be in History books for a long time-
The laws and Constitution are designed to survive, and remain in force, in extraordinary times.

It's so sad that this guy is 72. Fortunately, so is Scalia.

What John McCain said about the decision on Thursday morning:
"It obviously concerns me . . . but it is a decision the Supreme Court has made. Now we need to move forward. As you know, I always favored closing of Guantanamo Bay and I still think that we ought to do that."

What George W. Bush said about it Thursday afternoon:
"We will abide by the court's decision. That doesn't mean I have to agree with it."
"It was a deeply divided court. And I strongly agree with those who dissented,"

What John McCain said Friday:
"The Supreme Court yesterday rendered a decision which I think is one of the worst decisions in the history of this country,"

You think they had some focus group meetings on Thursday night?

McCain's vision for America scares me.

The move of this administration to suspend Habeus Corpus was wrong from day one.

And when the SCOTUS ruled the first time, the GOP congress as well as many democrats that upset me voted for the Military Commissions Act of 2006.

Now finally, the SCOTUS has stopped teh violation of rights in this country, and some integrity...not much, but some...has been restored to the image of the U.S. internationally.

Thank God for the great country we live in, where our checks and balances eventually stop the injustice.

McCain is a total flip-flopper, I wouldn't trust him as President because he has no set positions or principles, not so long ago the guy was a firm moderate who stood against the GOP playing the religious card, now he openly panders to it.

He is just a total cynic and neocon puppet, everyone can see he is simply Bush trying to extend his political longevity through McCain. McCain is such a weak and indecisive person that he would be a bad President and easily usable by the neocons.

McCain is a flip flopper of the worst order. He wants to be president so bad that he will say anything that he thinks people want to hear, regardless of his true intentions. Which is also who Mitt Romney is. That is why they make a great pair and will probably be married in Hell.

These prisoners should have rights only granted by international law. It's a dam shame that we've got limp-wristed judges who are more interested in political correctness, than actually upholding the laws of the United States.

I don't think any of the candidates have flip flopped to the degree that McCain has.
