A patent is no good if you don't have the funds to produce and market the product. That's where the $300 million will be useful.

If someone were to invent a battery like this, they wouldn't need the 300 mill. People would be running towards the product.

Similar to his gas tax suspension proposal, this is going to have no impact on the problems we face as a nation concerning energy. When is McCain going to propose an actual solution that might actually change something?
So what's Obama's idea and when will it be ready to roll out?

I don't understand the opposition to a new battery. If our goal is energy independence, a move away from gasoline powered cars is a step in the right direction. Electric cars have been made in the past, but with three main drawbacks: power, range, and recharge time. A new battery will help improve all three.

And there is no need to pressure Detroit and Big Oil. If the battery is good enough and the current car manufacturers refuse to use, someone else will. An entrepreneur and a venture capitalist or two will make sure it gets done.

His plan is not to raise the gas tax first, it is to raise taxes for the oil companies, not the consumer.

Second, Obama actually gave a speech on this just days ago! Lucky you

AND, You can even read his policy plans! They are available anytime at Barackobama.com/issues!

Apparently, many are too busy, or too lazy, to read for themselves that Obama has only talked of corn-based ethanol as a transition to other more efficienct and self-sustaining bio-fuels. This is in recognition of the huge gobs of money and jobs the current administration has dumped into this particular rat hole.

As far as the monetary prize for a better battery, I have no problems with it except that is merely a gimmick to take peoples mind off the rest of his energy program, a continued armed presence in the Middle East forever to make the world safe for big oil.

Also, he would like to divert public attention away from the fack that he helped create the high gas prices today by voting to eliminate regulatory oversight of the very speculators that have caused the high gas prices he is whining about now. See the video below:

You can keep comparing him to Carter...but you have no facts to back it up. And you did not refute the majority of his plan. Nice try though
