I DID. I bought and read the book after his speech before the Democratic National Convention in 2004. I was impressed with his speech and wanted to learn more about him.

Ultimately what it is all about is this: There are more than a few white people who are scared (*)(*)(*)(*)less that if a even a bi-racial man becomes President of the United States that these white people will began to be treated like they have treated black people for all these years.

Of course black people who want to grab the brass ring and make it in America have to learn to talk white. I mean WTF? The same racists on this board - and there are more than a couple - who criticize a black man for talking white are the same dumbass, largely Southern crackers who would criticize black people because they talk black. Think about that! Think about that! It is racist what y'all are saying and continue to say and continue to tacitly accept on this board!

Do you think the Japanese came to America dressed in kimonos and speaking only Japanese would have ever learned the car industry so well that they now control it in America! Hell f-ing no! They wore business suits and learned American customs and the learned to speak white English, the language of power and money. Why? Because if you want a lot of power and a lot of money in America the language is white English. Even Southern people know this. Which is kinda (*)(*)(*)(*)ing amazing because most of the bigots and racists on this board are Southern.

Southern people because of their dialect are looked at by the rest of the nation as slow, poorly educated Gomers. You think the movie Forest Gump would have worked as well if the protagonist have been named "Allen Buckley" and the movie had taken place in Connecticut? Of course not. The only place a real dumbass could have been portrayed was in the South. There's not a Southern bigot on this board who doesn't know what I'm talking about. If you live outside the South or if you work for people who are from outside the South it helps your career if you don't sound so much like Gomer Pyle.

At the same time your accent is a matter of Southern pride around your people and people in the South. Why is it so different for a black man to want to communicate well with white people? Why is it wrong for a black man to want to talk black around black people? You all talk as if it were something bad. But you'd be the first to criticize him if he talked black around white people.

It's racist, plain and simple. In fact the Elections & Campaign Forum should be renamed the "I Hate (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s Forum" because that almost all you read on this forum. This forum is not about politics, it is about racism and bigotry.

And so, you read the whole book, and you came away frightened, because Obama found it beneficial to be extra nice to white people?

SpooOOOooky.

You can't boil race down to a sentence. You can't boil Obama's unique perspective down to a sentence.

I'm more concerned about the candidate who sings(jokes) about bombing nations, who keeps confusing sunnis and shiites, and who's entire energy policy is based on "prizes," the size of small arms contracts.

Ok...

JP5, seeing as you have read the book, don't you think its relevant to disclose the age he was describing himself at there? Or that its not even remotely emblamtaic of him/his book and the ideas on race init? Or indeed, even technically wrong- they probably were impressed.

Oh and later in that blog- "In other words, Barack was willing to sacrifice his mother and his grandparents on the alter of black nationalism." Yes, other words, words vastly removed from reality. What a waste of good literature- ah well Barack was expecting it, per the foreword.

As if you cared about race relations! I've read your posts.

Here's what scares me about Obama:

1) his lack of experience---management, budgetary, and foreign policy, to name but a few.
2) his slick talk of glowing words that have no meaning...platitudes with no substance.
3) his views on terrorism; his willingness to talk to leaders like Ahmadenajab with no demands up front.....which would only raise such leaders importance in the world.
4) his socialist views on the economy
5) his lack of a free market view
6) his La-La Land belief that he can control the earth's weather----and his willingness to make us all suffer as he attempts to do so.
7) his apparent misjudgment of character----even after 20 year relationships.
his attempts to disavow earlier views when it suits him politically.

To name but a few.

Then you're obviously NOT reading very objectively. I judge people by "the content of their character; not by the color of their skin."

Per him.....his grandmother was a "typical white woman." So, if McCain said about Obama...."he's just a typical black man" you'd think nothing of it?
