Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) plans to slam President Bush’s faith-based program as “a photo op” and a failure on Tuesday, and says he would scrap the office and create a new Council for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships that would be a “critical” part of his administration.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0708/11462.html In his speech on patriotism, Obama jabbed organizations like Move On, by denouncing those who called General Patraeus "General Betray Us". Obama kept rather quiet about the overturn of the ban on handguns in D.C. He pretty much gave the same explanation as Scalia (everybody has right to self defense, but common sense is necessary i.e. don't sell guns to convicts). Obama said that states should have the right to execute a child rapist if they want to. Obama also endorsed a wiretapping bill that was seen as a compromise, which angered Move On and many liberals. Who would have thought that Mr. Liberal Democrat would get in touch with his conservative side? Obama is so ambiguous with so many issues that it is possible for him to take a more conservative stance on the issues. Personally, I would be more than delighted to see that happen. I think that he will change his plan in Iraq and encourage a slower withdrawal, and maybe change his ideas on the capital gains tax, after he was hammered at that debate. But then again, maybe it's wishful thinking. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/c...,1299140.story

Only way you can apply 'centrist' politically to Obama is to stick him in the Chinese Government.

Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., was the most liberal senator in 2007, according to National Journal's 27th annual vote ratings. The insurgent presidential candidate shifted further to the left last year in the run-up to the primaries, after ranking as the 16th- and 10th-most-liberal during his first two years in the Senate. ![]() Here's how this was calculated, if you're curious: http://nj.nationaljournal.com/votera...ethodology.htm

The point of this thread is that he was considered the most liberal senator. Thus, when he makes a conservative move its a big deal.
