Yup. The only poll that matters is the one on Election Day. Whoever's ahead today, or next week, or next month, doesn't matter squat.

Pre-election day polls are useful in analyzing trends in comparison to the campaigning strategies of the candidates. But I agree, claiming a "win" or somesuch bull(*)(*)(*)(*) from a July poll is crazy; they're just there as reference points, not absolute indicators.

The pre-election polls are probably most useful to the candidates themselves, in order to plot their campaign strategies. My hunch is that Obama has placed a lot of staff in Missouri because, while McCain is slightly (but statistically significantly) ahead, overcoming McCain's current advantage is doable, in the opinion of his campaign strategists.

Sounds right to me. With the money he has, I'm sure he can afford it--not just in Missouri, but in lots of swing states or traditionally Republican states.

But then again, Republicans have always been better at that. Hence why all government social agencies are failures.
so whats your point? how many paid staffers do you think obama has nationwide?

It remains for Obama to be really revealed to the voters who decide elections, the ones who haven't even tuned in yet and aren't responding to polls. When he is we'll see whether his schtick sticks with them or not. It will have nothing to do with money or issues or campaign staff. It will all be a referendum on Omama, and McCain is merely the UNbama.

Like how Bush's new entitlement program, the Prescription Drug Benefit, costs 10 times more than projected. Yeah, Republican Bush really managed that one well...right...

Not good polling numbers to begin with.
And Bush had the lowest Presidential approval ratings in history - lower than Nixon during Watergate. He will go down as one of the worst Presidents in history. His legacy will be an albatross around McSame's neck.
