Default Electoral map predictions

Here's a summary of electoral map sites, and their current predictions for the presidential race:

INTRADE (based on trading in candidate futures)
http://electoralmap.net/index.php

Dems: 306 EC votes
Reps: 216 EC votes
Too close to call: 16 EC votes

ELECTORAL-VOTE.COM (a respected consolidator of poll results)
http://www.electoral-vote.com/

Dems: 320
Reps: 204
Too close: 14

CNN (not updated since mid-June, looks like)
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/06/...map/index.html

Dems: 231
Reps: 194
Too close: 113

I'll try to update the totals every now and then. If you've got a map that should be on the list, let me know and I'll start tracking it, too. But I'm not going to be tracking maps on blogs, or DailyKos, or party sites, or anything so partisan. Only relatively unbiased sites.

I don't think polls matter much at this point, but these consolidation sites give a better picture than individual polls.

This may be too optimistic for Obama....

JLB, could you please not spam the thread?

Your map is from here:
http://www.opinionjournal.com/ecc/calculator.htm

And it's simply an interactive map that starts with the 2004 election results. So the image you show is not a data-driven predictor of the 2008 race. The map can be made to show any result you like, simply by clicking on states and picking a winner. Which is what you -- or whomever produced the image -- did.

It's not a poll consolidator, so it doesn't belong here.

Oh, I'm sorry.

Did you only want people who agreed with you to respond?

I'm giving you an educated prediction, which is far more accurate than yours.

You'll see...

For maps I like
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epo...ama_vs_mccain/
since clicking on a state takes you to lists of multiple polls for that state.

Yeah, that's what I said...

I'm just listing sites that consolidate poll results into electoral college predictions. Not sites that simply represent the opinions of individuals, however erudite they claim to be.

Go troll somewhere else.

My favorite is 538.com

He has Obama currently up 307 to 231. Even with this predicted electoral margin of victory you will see that he sees the popular vote only being a 3% spread.

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com

Todays polls:
Quote:
In Michigan, Rasmussen has Barack Obama moving into an 8-point lead. Obama had led by 3 points in Rasmussen's June poll, although other pollsters had shown numbers closer to the 8-point lead that Rasmussen found today.
Quote:
McCain has improved his standing in two other states, however. In Louisiana, Rasmussen now has him with a 19-point lead, up from 9 points in late May.
Quote:
And here in New York, Siena has a new poll showing Obama with a 13-point lead; he had led by 18 points in June.
Something very interesting are the models he's formulated that show what happens when the turnout is increased, as it was with the primaries. He does models with increased African American, Hispanic and youth turnout. Each segment favors Obama by large margins.

That's a great site! I like the stuff he does at the margins to show different scenarios.

How do you feel about how poorly Obama is doing at this stage, compared to the previous Democrats who lost that were way ahead in the polls by now?

Does it worry you that he is tied, and losing ground to McCain every day?
