Default Lieberman Would Address the RNC

......if asked by John McCain.

Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) said he’s open to speaking at the Republican National Convention in September if presumptive GOP nominee John McCain asks him.

"I want to help him. I’m not going to attack Obama. I am going to explain why I, as an independent democrat, support McCain, hoping that I can convince other independents and Democrats to join me in choosing the man who is clearly more ready to be the president America needs today,” Lieberman said on "Fox News Sunday."

Asked whether he would make a speech even if Democrats kick him out of their caucus, Lieberman replied: “I’m going to do what’s right for the country and not worry about the politics. And John McCain is definitely right for the country as our next president.”

Lieberman needs to make up his mind what he is and stick to it in my opinion. He is playing the middle of the road here and it sounds like he might want to be McCains VP. Just opinion though.

Of course Lieberman is going to address the GOP convention because he sees the world solely through the prism of Israel. Loyalty to America and American domestic policy are secondary to people like him.

Nah, I doubt it. And McCain should not choose Joe as his VP either. It would look too much like a repeat of the failed Gore/Lieberman ticket from 2000. It's good enough just having Lieberman supporting him and willing to follow his principle beliefs versus just being a party loyalist like I believe so many of the other Democrat leaders are. After all, they already basically kicked Lieberman out of their party because he dared to "step off their plantation" so to speak.

I disagree. I believe Joe does exactly what he believes. IT's about principle and what he believes is best for America, IMHO. He's never wavered from that view either. He seems to have a pretty good grasp on the problems of the Middle East.

LOL

Come on. Give me a break. Joe Lieberman, like many of his ilk, cares about one thing and one thing only; Israel. He wants to send Americans into more wars against Israel's enemies, that's why he's backing McCain and influencing him. Listen to yourself man, get off this Republican/Democrat crap for a second and be an American. Once you leave this political party dogmatism you'll understand that Joe Lieberman does not care about America.

I do agree with TT that Lieberman has strong feelings for the jewish question. He also follows along the (R) line on Middle East policy. He would be a good fit to speak at the RNC in those terms.

Deep down I think he has higher political aspirations. He may even believe his independent status could help with McCain run for the White House. That also makes sense to me. Being a former (D) and Gores former running mate he has a lot going for name recognition. I would think that the RNC would see that as a step up on so many other potential choices.

McCain at times more in the past seemed close to this Independent thats why he ran strong with (I) voters in the primaries.

McCain Lieberman could be an interesting ticket against Obama and ?. I'm not sure any of this will wash out but to me it looks good on paper. Romney will be good in a couple of states for McCain Lieberman may be able to pull more (D) and (I) votes. Just a thought.

Hagel?

Anyway, as for Lieberman, what other reason would he have for this strange shift. Why would a liberal Senator all of a sudden support the Republican in the manner that Lieberman has. The answer may be politically incorrect, but it's obvious.

Even going back to 2000, McCain was the favorite candidate of the Neoconservatives. And now, as in 2000, he's surrounded himself with Neoconservative advisers. The Neocons were originally Jewish democrats who migrated to the Republican party for the sole reason that they felt that the left wouldn't be as strong in defending Israel. There's a long history to it which I won't get into, but everything points to Lieberman's transformation as being for the same reasons. Stop kidding yourself JP5.

what Joe means here when he says "clearly more ready to be the president America needs" is that McCain is willing to protect Israel, not destroy it like the Muzzie Hussein will do.

Exactly.

Glad to see that even the right in America sees where Lieberman's loyalties lie.
